Hi all,

First post - hoping I put it in the correct area. I am looking for advice regarding a flight from Adelaide - Tokyo. I have 2 options :

**All flights are business class**

(1) Malaysia Airlines : MH136 (A330-300) onto MH88 (777-200) with return MH89 (777-200) onto MH139 (A330-300)
(2) Singapore Airlines : SQ278 (A330-300) onto SQ638 (A380-800) with return SQ637 (A380-800) onto SQ279 (A330-300)

I am currently a QFF Gold but may only make it to silver this year (could stretch to gold if it brought benefits). This flight will be at the start of my next QFF Status year.

Going with (1) will get me near to QFF Gold at the start of next year and my flight will be with MAL.
Going with (2) will get me to Velocty Gold (or platinum if I pool my family members), and my flight will be with SAL.

I am hoping to get some advice from frequent flyers as to which would be the better choice of these particular flights for MAL vs SAL. We have 2 children with us and 3 other family members so we want to make it as enjoyable as possible. The benefits to rewards status are secondary, although I tend to fly Qantas round Australia (but Velocity Gold/Plat may change that).

Looking forward to your advice.

Cheers !

To not over complicate an answer, I would take the SQ option. You can family pool your partner and 3 kids (assuming all under 18) for a significant point and status credit haul. Your QF SG status won't count for anything if you are traveling J on MH for lounge access so that isn't a consideration. The seat on SQ is much nicer than MH too IMHO.

Excluding the status points, would it be safe to assume that the seats / business class area for these flights on SQ are better than MH then?

I am not familiar with the particular seating arrangements on these planes, although I did check out the various seat advisor sites. Unfortunately I still don't know enough about them to make a properly informed decision .... hence I am looking for the wisdom of those who are are fortunate enough to have traveled more frequently.

This is the first time much of my family will have traveled in business class for an international leg so I want to make the best decision on their behalf.

Thanks again for all your help.

MH is angled lie flat the whole way, SQ is angled on the A330 but very wide and true lie flat on the 380.

At the end of the day it's your call as to who you fly with.

Do a search using Google Images and you will get a better appreciation of the products and the layouts.

i wouldn't even consider MH unless I needed the SCs.

sq is excellent and even though their beds are angled on the a330 they have managed to achieve something which feels almost flat. I remember the first I took it thinking 'SQ knows how to get it right... why can't other airlines with angled beds do it the same?'
