Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Saturday 21 September, the overnight delayed QF9D was airborne from PER at 2227 hours, so Sunday 22 gate arrival at LHR should be about 0754 hours, 1609 minutes late. The overnight delayed QF10 may be able to depart at a guess at around 0945 if all goes well.

The medical incident tardy QF1 was in SIN from 0145 hours to lift off at 0409 hours, so LHR arrival should be 1041, 246 minutes behind schedule.

The 787 arriving at 5am (also from PER) could operate the delayed QF10.

Shwoing the effect of B789 VH-ZNC being inoperable in Perth and QF9/10 badly delayed, QF73, the 2130 hours mid evening SYD-SFO on Sunday 22 September has been cancelled.

This will also mean Sunday's QF74 back from SFO to SYD gets the chop.

I've not gone back through this thread, but from memory this is the second or third time QF73/74 have been cancelled since VH-ZNC went 'tech'.

I'm on this flight in Oct, and becoming more and more concerned.

The positive is the cancellations are far from being every day.

B789 VH-ZNC operated empty from PER to MEL last night. It isn't operating the 1155 hours QF93 to LAX or the 1300 hours QF21 to DFW so unsure if it's being further repaired in MEL or whether we'll shortly see it returning to passenger carrying duties.

Thanks for the info and ongoing data points!

As usual, Flyerqf, you were correct.

B789 VH-ZNG arrived at its LHR gate at 0448 hours, 17 minutes early on Sunday 22 September 2024 from PER as QF9.

It is now running QF10D, the delayed 1155 hours Saturday 21 departure that was off blocks at 0917 hours, (1817 Sunday AEST), 1282 minutes late.

QF10D was airborne from Heathrow at 0937 hours with PER arrival expected at gate at 0917 hours on Monday 23, 1297 minutes behind schedule.

QF139, Sunday 22's 1855 hours evening SYD-CHC is expected to depart at 2135 mid evening, resulting in a likely arrival just before 0200 hours on Monday 23. I'd rather not imagine what a businessman or woman might feel if they had to rise at 0730 for an 0930 hours Monday morning meeting.

assuming they can depart as planned... sometimes they could run close to curfew from further delays

One I missed earlier on Sunday 22 September was how after B789 VH-ZNE arrived ex CDG in PER at 0940 hours, 45 late as QF34, its second sector to SYD was cancelled. This aircraft is to operate QF9, the 1830 hours evening nonstop PER to LHR.

Regular truncations of QF9/10 occur to be PER-LHR-PER only, not to/from MEL, while sometimes QF5/6 and QF33/34 to/from SYD only operate their international sectors to/from FCO and CDG. This increases journey time for passengers originating or terminating in SYD or MEL.

for those that arrived in PER, the delay is bad, but at least they can connect to other domestic QF services

Only if there's seats available, especially if it's a last minute change.

Inevitably, a time penalty too transferring to/from a domestic flight. Even if immigration and Border Force is quicker in Perth than Sydney, passengers would still lose time.

These two are actually related. So when QF34 PER-SYD sector was cancelled to keep QF9 on time, this resulted in the QF73/74 being cancelled as this aircraft was due to go on to SFO.

The ZNC being out of service caused QF103/104 to be operated by an A333 on 21/9 and 22/9.

On Sunday 22 September, QF1 (A388 VH-OQJ) ended up arriving at LHR at 1113 hours, 278 minutes late.

The Saturday 21 2045 hours scheduled QF2 from LHR to SIN arrived on Sunday 22 at 1713 hours, 12 minutes early with A388 VH-OQB. However the usual 1930 hours overnight sector to SYD is not departing until 1030 hours midmorning on Monday 23. Is this somehow related to crew requiring minimum rest after having worked 'the 1' that turned back to SYD due to a medical incident, or is there a problem with aircraft OQB?

This will mean passengers arrive in SYD at around 2000 tomorrow evening, not 0510 in the morning. One assumes out-of-towners have been accommodated in Singapore hotels if unable to secure seats on the 'local' SIN-Oz workings.

I had noted this was to occur quite a few posts above, making it three times in about 10 days it's been an A333 SYD-HNL and return. The sudden greater number of seats might give some Y passengers a 'budget sleeping berth' across seats.
