Qantas Delays/Cancellations

This morning (Sunday 15 September) QF5, the 2355 late Saturday night PER-FCO took off at 0253 hours. Rome arrival is estimated as 1223 hours, 143 minutes late.

The returning QF6 is the 1200 'high noon' departure from FCO to PER that will have B789 VH-ZNI. It is proposed to depart at 1415 hours that while tight may just be achievable.
 
The delayed QF5 arrived FCO on Sunday 15 September at 1247 hours, 167 minutes behind schedule, so later than indicated.

Impossible for a 1415 hours departure of QF6 to occur. Aircraft remains B789 VH-ZNI.
 
QF 1545, the final MEL-LST flight of the day did not operate last night. Consequently QF1546, this morning’s scheduled 0630 LST-MEL service is also cancelled (for the 2nd consecutive Monday morning) as the aircraft operates both services, overnighting in LST.
Some affected ex-LST pax may be travelling on the 0620 VA1361 this morning, which is approximately 2/3 full, and others may have been rebooked to travel 4 hours later on the mid-morning QF1542.
 
On Sunday 15 September, QF6 took off from FCO with B789 VH-ZNI at 1556 hours. PER arrival on Monday 16 should be at about 1333 hours, 233 minutes behind schedule.

Optimistically, FR24 suggests the second sector to SYD will push back at 1450 hours. This will mean an arrival around 2030 hours at a guess.

QF75, the 2030 hours mid evening SYD-YVR has been altered to depart at 2220 late tonight so it is likely ZNI will form this flight.

As noted above, tonight's 2025 hours SYD-HNL is an A333 rather than a B789, as VH_ZNC remains inoperable in PER.
 
A333 OH-LTS as QF295, the 1025 hours Monday 16 September SYD-SIN was not in the sky until 1124 hours, so gate arrival is pushed back to a predicted 40 minutes late at 1730 in the late afternoon.
 
Later on Monday 16, QF6 from FCO (Rome, B789 VH-ZNI) arrived PER at 1333, 233 minutes late, and with a different B789 departed the terminal more promptly than I'd estimated, at 1458 hours.

It took off expeditiously at 1507 but the aircraft has changed from B789 VH-ZNI, which arrived in PER from FCO as QF6, to VH-ZNE, which earlier (at 1246 hours, 66 minutes late) came in as QF10 from LHR.

ZNI is next on the 1830 hours PER-LHR QF9, as 'the 10' is not undertaking a PER-MEL leg.

This begs the question: were the ULDs (small airline containers) of passengers' luggage bound for SYD from FCO transferred, and what about any time sensitive freight?

Happy to be corrected but don't previously recall a swap like this in PER.

QF6 should arrive in SYD at around 2045 this evening, 215 minutes late, as the winds must be favourable. I assume it's still forming the delayed QF75 (the 2030 hours SYD-YVR in Canada).

QF6 is to be later arriving in SYD on 16 September than forecast above: estimate has ballooned out to 2103 hours.

B789 VH-ZNE should then be on the delayed QF75, but hard to see it departing at 2220 as QF and FR24 suggest. However it should be able to depart prior to curfew, the main aspect any who are savvy travellers might be concerned about.

From the curfew dispensation reports tabled in Federal Parliament, on occasion the delegate for the Minister for Transport does not approve an extension of time for a flight whose reason for delay was unpunctuality in the previous sector. It's different - i.e. approved - if due to a lighning strike or a passenger requiring medical attention at the last minute.

The delayed QF75 has been further put back to an expected 2234 hours (odd time!) pushback from SYD to YVR, meaning it'll be more than two hours late departing.

UPDATE: QF75 (B789 VH-ZNE) departed SYD at 2225 hours after a very fast turnaround of about 82 minutes. One wonders at the standard of "cleaning" of an aircraft that's just come in from Perth and London. and is now off to Vancouver. Bring your wet wipes!

FURTHER UPDATE: QF75 was airborne at 2240 hours with YVR arrival suggested as 1858, 88 minutes late, so in theory in plenty of time for the 2120 hours QF76 back down to SYD departing punctually.

On Monday 16 September, QF10 from LHR down to PER (B789 VH-ZNM) took off at 1229 hours so Tuesday 17 arrival at gate in PER should be 1221 hours, 41 minutes behind the timetable.

Sister aircraft -ZNG is on QF4 from JFK and AKL to SYD. It arrived in Auckland this morning at 0606 hours (66 minutes late) and subsequently took off for SYD at 0825 hours with an 0924 hours arrival, 49 minutes behind, on the cards.

Last night, A332 VH-EBS on the 2200 hours BNE to LAX QF15 was airborne at 2321, so arrival (same day) is suggested as 1927 hours, 57 minutes behind schedule.

A333 VH-QPI on QF25 from SYD up to HND arrived this morning at 0602 hours, 37 minutes tardy.
 
Continuing with Tuesday 17, A388 VH-OQG on the 1155 hours MEL-LAX QF93 took to the sky at 1314, so predicted gate arrival becomes 48 minutes late at 0958 hours, same day.
 
Wednesday 18 September's QF127 (A333 VH-QPD) arrived HKG at 1829 hours, 29 minutes behind schedule, but the returning 1930 hours QF128 did not take off until 2129. On Thursday 19, it is arriving in SYD at 0831 hours, 96 minutes late.

-QPD then formed QF19, the 1225 hours SYD-MNL airborne at 1330 with a 1925 hours, 35 late, arrival at gate suggested for tonight.

On Wednesday 18 September, the first leg of QF33 from SYD to PER arrived uneventfully (timewise) at 1650 hours, 10 minutes early, but the remaining sector to CDG took off at 2146 after an aircraft swap from B789 VH-ZNL to VH-ZNI. On Thursday 19, gate arrival should be 0843 hours, 108 minutes late.

QF34 is today's 1025 hours CDG down to PER: it should be late departing, though not horrendously so.

QFi seems to be swapping aircraft for 'the 5' or 'the 33' fairly often in PER. This increases the possibility of a ULD (small airline container) not being correctly transferred, but presumably QFi has its reasons. Gone are the days when one could stay on board in Australia even if (in this case) passengers had cleared security in Sydney.

In more on Thursday 19 September, B789 VH-ZNM arrived in PER at 1256 hours, 76 minutes late as QF10 from LHR.

It has been swapped to operate a delayed QF6 second sector from PER across to SYD, with this 1105 hours scheduled flight amended to depart at 1500 AWST, 235 minutes late.

Meanwhile, VH-ZNG that arrived in PER this morning at 0959 hours, 19 minutes late as the initial sector of QF6 from Rome's FCO will operate QF9 from PER to LHR, the 1830 hours. Currently QFi is not operating the domestic MEL-PER leg of the previous QF9 "through service", which IIRC 'saves' a B789 from overnighting in MEL, all the more important because B789 VH-ZNC remains idle in Perth, stabled at a hardstand position.

Continuing with Thursday 19 September, QF73, the mid evening scheduled 2130 hours departure from SYD to SFO has been put back to a predicted pushback at 2235. This is close to the 2245 hours time that departing aircraft normally require to commence taxiing given the 2300 hours SYD curfew.

UPDATE: B789 VH-ZNM is apparently operating 'the 73.'

The plane is presently (as QF6) on its way from PER to SYD with arrival expected at 2045 hours, 213 minutes late on the normal schedule.

QF73 is now estimated to depart (perhaps a tad optimistically) at 2210 this evening. A 85 minute turnaround is possible but again one has to wonder what sort of a clean the B789 will receive given it's just come in today from London and then undertaken the transcontinental flight to Sydney.

The short time to form this next flight shows the pressure the B789s are under given VH-ZNC remains defective in Perth.

Also on Thursday 19, QF2227, the 1850 hours SYD down to WGA (Q400 VH-QOS) was still taxiing in Sydney at 2044 hours. If it's the same flight crew, QF2220, the 0630 hours WGA-SYD may be delayed tomorrow morning because the flight crew may not have enjoyed suficient rest hours were the morning flight to punctually depart.

Similarly, QF2008, the 1920 hours SYD-TMW was in the same boat as at 2048 AEST.

QF2166, the 1845 hours SYD up to PQQ (Port Macquarie NSW)( was taxiing in SYD as at 2049 hours, so it's also badly late. Q400 VH-QOM is the plane.
 
On Thursday 19 September, QF73 ended up taking off at 2238 hours, so arrival in SFO (same day) should be 1832 hours, 42 late for B789 VH-ZNM.

In more on Friday 20, QF59, the 1110 hours late morning SYD-HND took off at 1216 with gate arrival for A333 VH-QPD estimated as 2049, 39 minutes late.

QPE is on the 1020 hours midmorning MEL-HKG, QF29, that was in the sky at 1148 hours. A 53 minute late arrival at 1853 hours is the estimate.
 
Continuing with Friday 20 September, QF21, the lunchtime 1300 hours MEL to DFW took off at 1522 hours with B789 VH-ZNJ. The aircraft had been in MEL since arriving at 0609 hours, 36 minutes early as QF94 from LAX, so not sure why the delay.

DFW gate arrival should be at about 1516 hours, 86 minutes behind schedule.
 
@Melburnian1 you missed a special Qantas flight cancellation from Adelaide to Sydney yesterday, and it was on the news BECAUSE of this cancellation - it was QF 734 - 10am departure was cancelled due to "engineering issues" - stranding a lot of Port Adelaide fans heading to Sydney for the AFL preliminary final... not a port or swans supporter, tbh maybe Qantas did them a favour in cancelling this flight because the Sydney Swans won the game and heading to the Grand Final Next Week!
