Advertising on boarding passes

The only thing I find strange is that there's very little Virgin Australia branding on the Boarding Pass now. Since Virgin didn't invest in any customisation of Sabre Boarding Passes and just stuck with the off the shelf solution.

I don't even remember the last time I had a domestic boarding pass on QF just use Passbook or my QFF card.

Now if they put ads on the back of the confirmation stub generated at the gate that would be interesting!

A few more bucks for VA doing this - why wouldn't you??.... hopefully helps their share price out

Don't really care what is on the back of my boarding card. If ads are sold... They are sold. Just keep them classy. And yes, Qantas have been doing this for years.

I do love the "LCC" connotations when virgin do it, but Qantas has done it for many years. They seem to have stopped in the last year or two though.

Although, as markis10 pointed out, QF has a 737 flying around with Optus plastered all over it - whereas one of John Borghetti's early moves at Virgin was to scrub all custom advertising liveries.

After reading this topic, I don't feel like having ads on the back of 2 of 3 BPs over the last few days (MKY & SYD) make it feel like an LCC.... Then again, I was both times in J....
And only in MKY was given the cool BP Holder :/

Glad I'm also not the only one that feels like the BPs are so bland now - Better than the old paper ones which really made things feel like it was all Cheap as....

What next, painting a plane in an Optus promotion to go with optus ads on the boarding passes

That seems a touch to 'Qantas' for me....considering that you can earn points with Optus....maybe for VA a plane painted in a FOXTEL Livery! Hahahaha I mean seriously seems slightly cheap for an airline that is trying to compete with QANTAS!! :)

To those who have said fair enough, making a bit extra money, or similar, where would you draw the line? Baggage tags? Napkins? Headrests?

Personally I think there's too much advertising at airports and in general, and was disappointed to see this change to the boarding passes. But on the other hand, it's not intrusive and don't really see the pass after the flight.

How is it a change when it has been happening in various forms for how long now? It's not as if you have to turn the BP over and read the advert...

Just Imagine.....Optus stamped across a QANTAS bag tag, Foxtel stamped across a VA napkin or perhaps the next extreme if VA decides to join *A or SkyTeam (hopefully * but anyway...) next thing you know the carpet in the cabin will be stamped with all the member airlines of the alliance!!! I mean c'mon

It's a change because Virgin hasn't had it in recent history, that I can recall.

That's correct, I don't have to turn it over. I also don't have to be a fan of the fact there is advertising there, which obviously I am not, and I was simply expressing my opinion. Your opinion seems to be that it doesn't bother you, which is great. Diversity is what makes for the best discussions.

This topic has reminded me why i dont visit here often anymore. I mean, who really gives a cough, it tells you what seat you are in, what tome to be there, and even your status, if you need to be reminded of that

Virgin are enhancing their advertising and generating funds for the company, I don't see any harm in that, why keep the back of a BP empty when they can add extra revenue? That revenue may allow Virgin to enhance and upgrade other parts of travel space for the frequent flyer. If people dislike it then they really don't have to flip the BP around and look at it, there's also the possibility of submitting feedback to VA as to why it irritates you or you could fly on Qantas, Jetstar or even Tiger.

I personally wouldn't care it there was extra advertising on the back of luggage tags, napkins or e tickets. As long as VA are customer orientated and focus on getting their in flight service and keep a safety record then by all means bring on the advertising.

I would agree with Liam that is kind of stupid to not feature their logo or branding on the boarding pass, they haven't been strong in the design and marketing field with BP's or their new FF cards.

Rant over, it's time to book me more VA flights and collect more BP's.

Their dockets used to have internal adverts (I.e blue holidays etc). This was from at least 5-6 years ago

it's not a change I have BP's form over 15 years ago with advertising on them.. it isn't new.

Also if you want to see over the top advertising, just look and any big sporting event! that is more in your face than what airlines do!

I think the phrase is "it screams LCC" :D
And Qantas has been doing it for years.

I seem to recall seeing it on some boarding passes in Asia but cannot remember the carrier.

$75 one way on my preferred route. Bring on the advertising I say.
It would be good if that is where the income from advertising went but I think it will be nice cream on top for their bonus schemes.

Either way advertising on boarding passes does not bother me.
