I know this is slightly off topic, but I can't find one suitable.

Does anyone have any advice about Qatar air.
Mrs GPH is looking at them as part of her next sojourn to Europe.

They were voted the worlds best airline in this years Skytrax awards.

What more information do you need?

I flew them in 2010 KL-Athens and LHR-KL in Y and was very impressed... A food experience still sticks with me and that i saying something for a Y meal...

I'd def fly them again and will at some point...

I've flown QR a number of times in the last few years and have another 6 flights booked with them over the next 8 months.

I've experienced very good customer service both on ground and in the air.

As stated previously, having won Skytrax Airline of the Year award for last 2 years, it shouldn't be too difficult a decision to fly/try them.

I have a friend who is a pilot with Qatar and loves working for them.

In his words 'You've got to love a company that buys you a brand new B777 every month!'

Not sure about all of them but the one I flew a couple if weeks ago did. Outstanding airline, great price, fantastic service, wearing my great j QR jammies as I type this post.
Cheers

Pyjamas? I'm sold. Ha.

Good news. I'll delve deaper and see if I can get a definitive. I'm thinking MEL-DOH may be the first flight of my next round the world but if they don't offer fully flat in J on that route consistently then I'll fly with EK or QF and connect.

Flown J on QR a few yrs back so impressed my wife still talks about it. The food on that trip was marvellous. Still remember the scallops. The connection time via DOh to Europe is not always good though. Either long layoff in DOH or cutting it too fine and the LHR to DOH leg if slightly delayed will often cause you to miss the connections back to Oz or SIN.

Flew Perth-Doha-Paris and Nice-Doha-Perth in March. Great service, more food than I could eat, pretty good IFE. Full flat seats on the overnight 777-200ER between Perth and Doha, angled lie-flat on the daylight flights between Doha and France (A340 and A330). The premium terminal at Doha is great, though transport between terminal and plane is by bus (optimistically referred to a "limousine or luxury coach" in the advertising material). When I booked, Qatar were the lowest price one stop J service that I could find between Perth and Paris.

QR does not have a B772ER in their fleet, so it would have been a B772LR. And I believe they will be launching B787 services to PER...

Yes, you're right - it was a 777-200LR.
787 services were supposed to have started back in Feb / March but of course that didn't happen. Eagerly awaiting the introduction of the Dreamliner, hopefully without battery fires!

What a coincidence, there is now a "787 Update" banner from Boeing appearing under my earlier post...

They fly Dreamliner from Doha to FRankfurt but not to and from CDG yet. I has single row of seats along window in J class . the thought of having to clamber over other passengers if I had a window seat was the deciding factor in choosing Oman airways from BKK to FRA and then CDG to BKK.
Will write a trip report on return late June.
have already made a mistake in not reading directions carefully in booking train travel as booking proceeds. Bugger. JoyV

Flew them GRU-EZE on J last year. 3hr flight but the service was absolutely amazing. Bollinger and tapas style meal was the winner plus very attentive and fun crew! Virgin & Qantas needs to learn from them!!

in the end I decided I needed to have a more frequent service than that offered by Oman so compromised my one seat by the window on all sectors to flying Qatar which offered 2 seats by window BKK to Doha and single seat on Dreamliner to FRA.

Here isa part of an email I wrote about travelling QR on Junw 3 2013, probably the first and only time I will fly business from BKK to FRA with Qatar which is a 5 star airline.

First leg to Doha. Flew on a 777-200 which had 2:2:2 seating in business class and the bed was almost level but dipped at little at ankle level for me. Soon rectified this by putting a spare pillow and blanket down there to even it up. I had a window seat and could enjoy the huge expanse of electric lights that is greater BKK. No one was sitting next to me so I threaded the seat belt through the hand luggage and we were all safe and sound. Service was great, food delicious and well presented. only problem was the the Video screen was too far away for me to reach while I had seat belt on and the hand control mouse was in go slow mode. Didn't like any films on offers. After dinner I managed to sleep about 3.5 hours on way to Doha.

On arrival we were bussed to Premium lounge which was the biggest three different restaurant areas with dining tables and linen table clothes I have ever seen. There were Qatar staff on hand to answer any questions you may have.

I headed for the middle eastern section then the Asian section and lastly the gourmet delcattessen section. Took photos of the french patisserie section and the exotic tea selection section. Did not have time for shower or massage chair. Did point out to staff that there was no room in the disabled loo for anyone to tranfer across to loo as they had placed a pretty table there with towels on it.

On the bus again and into Dream liner to fly on to Frankfurt.. It was worth every penny to go business to fly on this elegantly designed aircraft. As you walk into the plane there is a bench on top of a cupboard ( Coats?). On top of the bench is a round vase of fresh red, perfumed roses.Window seats have lots of storage and even an arm rest on aisle side which retracts downward during landing and take off to make for mor rapid exit if needed. Also gives you an d extra few inched to zyour bed width when sleeping. Offered more food and drink and PJs. Just chose some hot chocolate milk and went to bed and slept for another 4 hours before breakfast was offered to me. Brekky was very filling as I knew it would be some time before I would eat again. Strawberry smoothie, fluffy omelate with spinach and fried tomato cubes with mushrooms and a tomato mixture delicious. Sliced fruit selection, croissant and jam as well with a fruit juice and a bottle of water to take on train.

I was fascinated with the amount of length and width in the bed, not to mention storage space. The window light is electonically controlled, you can dial the amount of light you want to let through, the crew automatically select open for landing and take off.
From my one experience I can recommend the dreamliner experience. Will let you know if the return trip is as good. Joy
