Advice on champagne

I know very little about Champagne, generally only drink it a couple of times a year, yes I know I'm a heathen but I was hoping for some advice. I saw some 2005 Lanson Gold for $45 at BWS, is this a good buy & more importantly is it any good?

Yes & yes!! I think sub $55 is a good price for that. Am googling your find now!

Thank you PDog

It was on the Clearance table of a WA BWS store if that helps & I only noticed one bottle in those stores but didn't search the actual Sparkling aisles.

lol, can't find it here in country Victoria! Hope you went back & snapped it up! :-)

Dan Murphy scores it 97 points!

I have a (very welcome!) dilemma that I'm hoping some other members will be able to help out on. I have two champagnes that are both new to me and am planning on having one of them as our Christmas champagne, but don't know which one to choose. Which would AFF choose: 2004 Arras Blanc de Blanc or NV Gosset Grande Reserve? This would be for pre-dinner and canapes, if that makes a difference.

Probably not best to ask me as I am not a fan of Blanc de Blancs and haven't tried either of them...
But.. Vintage Cellars tells me it's International Champagne Day today so Happy Champagne Day everyone!!!!
How convenient that it falls on Champagne Friday :)

I only know the Tasmanian Arras (?), but had the Gosset grande reserve last Friday night while out at dinner and it was fabulous. I'd highly recommend that (and de Fermier, if you're in country Victoria!)

Oops, you're right PDog! I mean the Tasmanian Arras which, of course, is sparkling wine and not champagne

I'm so pleased to hear that the Gosset is fabulous though! Definitely leaning toward that one now.

I promised my husband that I wasn't buying any more wine for the rest of the year and then bought these. Hoping I can play them off as a much earlier purchase that's shipped very late.

no worries! Arras is quite good, but Gosset is in a different league.
(I too have made ridiculous promises like that to my husband before, I don't think he even listens any more!)

'2004 Arras Blanc de Blanc' is not a Champagne so, the Gosset ;)

I noticed that Graysonline auctioned some 05 Dom yesterday.

Has anyone tried this latest vintage ?

Yes, not impressed. Last one I liked was 2003. The 2004 rose vintage is very nice however. (Thanks to EK.)

Dined at Bistrot d'Orsay last night and tried this one for the first time.

Very Nice. Taste has hints of lemon, and although a Brut style, it is a little sweet, but well balanced.
