Another vote for NordVPN. Allows multiple devices. So when I'm overseas my iphone, ipad and laptop all get connected.

When back in AU I'll be connecting all of our house traffic out through NordVPN. I believe that will bypass
The new data retention law seriously invades our privacy – and it's time we took action

Of course I'm not doing anything, just prefer Australian Govt and others dont know how much time I spend on australian frequentflyer.

Tried to implement Nord today. Could not connect, had 3 lots of online chat and still no success-can't seem to track what is causing the problem

HI computing wizards out there. I am considering using a VPN for use at home as well as during my travels with an iPad. Any advice is welcomed. I have done a little research but would appreciate any further input. Thanks in advance

There are better to way than VPN, if you want to cover whole house and all devices.
Use smartdnsproxy service and i you can watch US or UK based Netflix services using Aus acct log in. Make sure to have static routing activated in your main router since some of the services use Google DNS as their dna.
I run a global network R&D for US company and we advise all our domestic users to use this service.

I've had excellent ongoing results with Tunnel Bear and Express VPN in China. All my "stuff" lives in the Google world so obviously, a good VPN is vital while travelling CN. Also for FB MSGR to call the family. I pack two VPN for CN in case there are any issues with one during my trip.

My daily-driver VPN is Tunnel Bear and I use it when travelling and want to watch Foxtel live sports on my iPad - VPN back to Australia and watch my team lose just like I'm sitting at home :( (Carlton). VPN also handy when travelling in countries where Netflix / Spotify is not yet available - same thing, VPN back to AU and job done.

Don't tend to use much at home in Aust but handy to have to get around any geoblocked articles and sites I want to read/access.

Yes Qantas free wifi in the lounge very handy then. Some sites are completely blocked and VPN gets me around them. However I have noticed myself using 4G more and more when I can as the download limits get higher on the mobile phone.

I have been using Express VPN for a number of years now. There are numerous advantages in using a good VPN and despite some comments here the good ones barely slow up your speeds at all. You tend to get what you pay for with a VPN and once you have used one you would never go without. Express can be used on your IPhone, iPad , PC or Android device and all at the same time if you wish on the one subscription. There is a great safety aspect of using one on your phone during travels as the insecure public WiFi is secure if using a VPN and you can choose which country Netflix or watch any of the Australian TV streaming services regardless of which country you are in by just connecting to a server in Australia. The security factor is very important particularly if using internet banking overseas. The cost is greatly outweighed by the security.

I concur with RichardB above, I have used various VPN providers over the years; both free and commercial. I currently use NordVPN, which while does slow the connection, the hit is quite acceptable. VPN is based on encryption and it cannot be had without any speed penalty, even in theory.

On a related note, I wonder if anyone here has managed to set up their main router to use NordVPN? What setting did you use? What routers are supported? For the record, I currently use TP-Link AC1750.

Just add.com to smartdnsproxy and you can run it for free few weeks then decide. Unlike VPN , this one shows you are in aus for all local services and UK and US services as those local services. Its extremely effective and all you do is put the DNS(which provided by them) in your each device and main router.

Just a quite note to people unfamiliar with VPN or DNS proxy:

Please note that smartdnsproxy does NOT provide any encryption or security; it is merely a service to mask your geolocation. It is actually pretty good for what it does (e.g. virtually no speed penalty), but don't have a (false) sense of security (beyond geolocation masking of course).

I use CyberGhost, seems to work for me. Gives me licences for 5 devices, so I can download the app from Google Play and use it across all my android and windows devices.

Just looking at it now.

However unfortunately with the 2 week free trial it specifically does not include Netflix US ( a message comes up to upgrade). This is a bugga as that is one aspect I wanted to test.
I was able to access BBC1 fine though.

Following the guide on how to set it up was easy.

If you use Smartdnxproxy, you can watch aus, or US netflix with one acct. Make sure to have your router to be static routing. Instructions are on their web site. BTW, you do not have limits on devices and male sure all devices you use have their DNS address.
