Advice on whisky

Surprised no has mentioned Irish Whiskey, Jameson 18, my last bottle was AUD130.

It's on my radar. DanFurphy's have it for $126. Dont' forget gift card and CashRewards. Normally sells quite fast but since annual releases no rush.
Good reviews but what's yours? Haven't tried any Irish yet.

Speaking of Irish Whiskey - Sampled some TEELING SINGLE GRAIN today, very caramel orientated re nose, didn't impress in the mouth, wasn't one I'd buy.

Have enjoyed the TEELING SMALL BATCH in the past, not full of the caramel influence and passable.

Both TEELINGS are 46%.

Finished our drinks at lunch with a SELECT CASK LAPHROIG, now that is nice !

PS..sampled also some COOPERS VINTAGE ALE 2016, at 7.5% it is quite delectable.

Looking to dip my toe in the Japanese pool in Jan next year. After years in the Scottish pool ( well I did go to uni there for 5 years !) I thought it about time I broaden my horizons !! I have an EY F jaunt to Europe so I'll do some sampling in the Whisky bar in the flounge. Recommendations ?

I tried the Japanese whiskey Hibiki at my brothers a month ago and I have to say it was a nice surprise. A lot better then expected and really smooth.

I get my glasses from gift sets. Currently using tumbler from Johnnie Walker Black Label gift set. It's heavy, exquisite and beautifully designed by Arran Gregory.
It's still available (seen last week) in Sydney Costco but maybe also in your local Dan Murphy's, 1st Choice and Vintage Cellars.

Consider buying Laphroaig Select Cask glass set and with Cashrewards and gift card it's a good deal.
Lasered/embossed with "Taste like Heaven smells like Hell", "A Storm in a Tea Cup, A Volcano in a Bottle".
I am certainly gettting the glasses just for that.

I picked that Yamazaki up in Singapore for the partner and he really loved it and he's a Scotsman (actually he just denies the English part of his heritage ). He just picked up the Chita whisky also from Suntory and quite likes it. I just smell them, I don't taste. The +1 goes around duty free with the Whisky Bible.

i looked at those but prefer the old fashioned style and shape. I finally decided on a few Viski glasses

I got two. I think the hype sold me, but worth a try. They do the job, but are a tad bulky, a tad fragile, and the shape isn't as elegant as the Glencairns in my regular use. Not too sure the "ribs" do much to aerate the whisky.

Worth a try, but I won't be buying any more. That's good single malt money I'd be spending!

I actually had a look at the Norlan glasses and although they do look lovely and I like double wall glasses, I also know that they can be quite fragile so I opted out. I have already ruined 4 double wall coffee glasses Seeing them next to your other ones, makes be happy I never got them as they look very big and clumsy compared to the others.
I really like the Glencairn glasses, they are my first choice if I get new ones.

Pretty sure I just gave a set of 6 of these and a decanter and ice bucket thingy to a friend for a garage sale, theyre 20+yrs old and never used. Very heavy.

We had a pair of Stuart crystal glasses which eventually were broken so now we use Royal Doulton. They are nice and heavy and sit well in the hand. We figure there is no point in not using the crystal glasses - enjoy them while we can. Same with red wine - Stuart crystal.

Glasses are not forever. The way I look at it, they're cheaper than the whiskies I drink - so if I have to replace them every year or two it's neither here nor there.

I know someone who puts his Reidel hand-blown glasses in the dishwasher!

As a teetotaler, I have recently just bought 2 bottles of Japanese whisky as a gift, a bottle of Yamazaki 18 yrs single malt and a Hibiki 21 yrs blended.
I just went by recommendations and have no idea of the cost but was told that the place to buy them is in Japan where it would be the cheapest place to buy from. So I asked a friend who was travelling there to get them for me at Narita duty free.

Received the said bottles today and I had a shock when I got the receipt. A$600 each!! (Y50,000 each!!). Seriously??

How does the price compared to Oz?

Is Japan the cheapest place to buy them?

Not at the duty free shop, usually much cheaper if you have time to shop.
However aged Japanese whisky is hard to find now.
