Aeroplan (Air Canada) is now selling points

I go the short straw - only up to 100% bonus.

It's not the worst value, but given the forex rate it's quite a bit of money to commit away for now.

I might purchase the minimum at the lowest promotional offer level just to keep the account ticking over.

Everyone’s situation is different and some people love to buy points on sale and just bank them until something comes along whilst others with only purchase when they see flights they want.
They do have some good availability from time to time but depends what you are looking for
Even if you don't have specific dates/flights in mind it's probably worth looking at some potential options (it's rare for people to have absolutely no idea of where they might go next!) which will give you a bit of an idea of availability etc. I'm not as anti as some about buying points, some of my best purchases were where I had no definite plans but thought the offer was too great to miss.

But equally you need to feel comfortable that if/when you do want to use you'll have some chance of doing so.
Thank you to both @jase05 and @burmans for your responses - I appreciate your thoughts on the situation. I've read good things about Aeroplan on this forum and don't want to miss out on a good deal. I've got just over a week to make up my mind.

Yeah I thought that as well. I’m still waiting for my 8 grand to come back and I got zero miles lol
What the hell is an adage ? Is that a airline

@Shanye2233, I hope that that gets sorted out soon - it must be very stressful.

An "adage" is a saying, or a proverb, or short statement. Like "better late than never", or "look before you leap". Something like that. I hope that this helps.

I tried to buy 100k + 100k points for the first time with this sale, but just got an email saying the purchase was cancelled because it could not be completed.

Anyone had any experience with this or know how to get past it? I used a NAB credit card.

AC/AP seems to be having issues processing Australian issued credit cards - they do work over the phone - best to call on 0011 800 6699 2222 - this is a toll free number for AC once you get an agent explain your issue and they will transfer you to an Aeroplan agent - note while AC is 24x7 Aeroplan is not (sorry I can't recall AP operating hours)

So I got the bonus offer for 100% and bit the bullet for 200k miles . Aussie costs $3940.05.

Firstly tried the purchase on my 28 degrees card which got declined so I tried on my amex card which got declined. So currently im left with nearly $8,000 pending on both my cards and not a point.
Same boat. I joined and got 125% somehow. I have a great deal of flexibility with time and destinations so I got A$5K. My 28 degrees was declined. Same ANZ Black. So I put the money in my Wise Visa and used that. Fingers crossed the points will go in soon.

I spend some time overseas and sometimes my A c cards are knocked back. So I usually put the money in a Wise wallet and use that app and Visa card. Comes through when others don’t.

OK I bit the bullet and bought 100,000 (200,000 with 100% bonus) - transaction went through no problem using an AmEx platinum charge card with Aussie address. (Thought I'd given up buying points in any program but one last roll of the dice). I really like AA points but even with their Black Friday sale it's nearly .04 AUD per point.

There are reports that transactions are being cancelled one to two days later so let us know how you go!

Hum - me too - a couple of days later and no issues with points which posted.
Yeah… if the points hit the account, no problem.

The reports above, plus from my friend, were that while they received a confirmation of purchase, the $$ were put on hold on the CC, but the transaction ultimately failed. The points never hit.
