Aeroplan (Air Canada) is now selling points

The points sales are usually every 2 months or so ? Just wondering whether to jump on this one or wait for the 100-110% one hopefully next time...

The 85% sales can be quite good too, if the AUD/CAD exchange rate is close to parity. ATM it’s not looking so great, but still just $4700 return to Europe, plus actual tax.

It’s not bad value.

Bought some more during the recent sale. Used it for hkg to melb on SQ. Not too bad considering I couldn't find 2 seats on QF or CX on the days that worked for us.

You are looking at Air canada flights and their dynamic pricing. This puts any seat on the aircraft as available for point, but at the retail price.

Is there a way to just search for base award flights ?

When I select 'use my points', I appear to get dynamic pricing (points) only... though I guess it's possible there are no award flights for the regions/dates I'm looking at

AmEx's devaluation last year (3 AmEx points to 1 KF) kind of put an end to this.

So AmEx has a 275k sign up bonus for the platinum card at the moment...

Still struggling to swallow the $1450 annual fee when KrisFlyer is 3:1, Bonvoy is 3:2 (then some other poor ratio to get into AC)...

Does Amex let you convert MR to Accor ? That conversion is only 2:1...

Anything that’s not air canada! All partner awards will be basic pricing.

Get a US Amex and transfer MR across for a better ratio .

Very much possible. Look up ‘strategy for us Amex ‘ thread here . Most US cards that charge AF don’t have a forex conversion fee . Little more difficult for CA Amex .
Is this or a CA Amex possible if you live in Aus ??
Wouldn’t you also get stung with all sorts of currency conversion fees ?
ich

So how do you do that when domiciled in Australia or NZ? That thread you refer to is one of the longest and most inconclusive threads on this site. If you would care to summarise it for us here that would be helpful.
To summarise it takes some work and if you aren’t prepared to put in the work it’s probably not for you.

Well said .

After you have held an aus Amex for at least 3 months . Apply for a us Amex using the GT method ( logging into Aus account ) or Nova credit method using Aus credit history .
Use a friend / relative or virtual address and a virtual us phone number . Choose a free card for your first so you can keep it forever which helps your credit score .

Do you mean choose a fee free US card ?

Is there any downside to getting one of the big points Aus offers first, then transfer to a US card before the second year’s fee is due ?

I wish I could understand this stuff. I bought AC points at a discount and used them for a SYD-YVR return. As I was 20k points short I made up the difference with cash. The total cost of this ticket, cost of points plus cash balance, was considerably greater than the cash cost of my wife's ticket. I would certainly never buy another AC point, on sale or otherwise.
