Aeroplan (Air Canada) is now selling points

Quick Q: I used my Aeroplan miles to book QR J Adl-Mel-Doh, Doh- Sez. The plane stops at Mel for 1 hr 45 mins...as a Qf Plat member, can I visit the Qf F lounge in Mel for a quick bite as Qr is a OW member by flashing my BP and Qf Plat card?

***Ahem to say I actually used my AA miles to book not Aeroplan miles..oops!***

Yes! I did this last year. Edit: mine was a QR J award - if it’s a aeroplan issued ticket, presumably with an Air Canada frequent flyer number on it then I’m not so sure - sorry.

Anyway See details on the QR flights and lunch here

Moldova in a round-about sort of way

I guess I could ask at checkin in Adl to change to my Qf freq flyer no.

Edit: I just looked at my Dar-Doh, Doh- Adl Qr BPs from Nov last year and they had my Qf freq flyer no. on them.....they were award bookings via Velocity points...I think I changed the freq flyer no. from Va to Qf on the QR Manage My Booking website. ;)

Presumably not Qatar airways issued via Aeroplan! Aeroplan partners with Etihad, emirates and Gulf, not QR! :)
You are right...I used my AA miles to book the Qr flights, not Aeroplan...I got confused ;) Edited my post above!

Similar, I just spent 220k getting two of us back from Baku (Azerbaijan) in business, Turkish to Istanbul then Singapore back to Sydney. Have been looking at using Velocity, QF, AA, Lifemiles with no luck even 11 months out. Air Canada seems to have more availability and are available 3 weeks earlier. And even buying points is a third of the price of actual revenue fares. Happy with that!

Hi all, a bit late to the party here - i noticed Aeroplan is having a 125% bonus on points purchases but note that there is a line in the heading on the site which states that the bonus drops to 100% from July 12 to 19. Does this mean that it goes back up to 125% on the 20th for the rest of the month? Am wondering if I should hold off purchasing the points until the 20th? thanks heaps!

no.

125% was a special bonus. 100% is the standard for this promo, which ends entirely on 19 july.

the next promo will likely be a few months away, anywhere from 80-100%.

Thanks - I just read the terms..bit bummed about missing the extra 25% offer...I do wonder if it is worth waiting for the next promo...decisions, decisions - lol

100% is almost as good as you're going to get. The last time they had a 125% was in November last year which was a mystery bonus of 100% or more, however not many received a bonus over 100%.

Abd the maximum bonus is only applicable to higher cost purchases. If you’re only spending about A$1000 or A$1500, then you’ll get something like an 85% bonus if the Max bonus is 125%.

@Sunnyj

The landing page on Aeroplan purchase points page still mentions 125%, but going through, its a max of 100%, as advertised from today.

Need to purch 60K points to get 100% bonus - C$2,100. Purch 25K (C$875) to 55K, get 75% bonus.

Looks to be Y only
Thankfully Velocity is showing good J availability
Yes, but a good start. Hopefully they show J and first soon.

I Want to use the 5000 points stopover deal to stop over in Japan and take the new business class to LHR.

I’ve taken advantage of the 125% bonus and purchased some points. Now just experienced the great incompetence of the Aeroplan helpline…

Took 4 phone calls and lots of waiting on line for them to tell me that they / I can’t do the 5000 point stopover deal for a trip… Searching individual legs MEL-KUL-TPE yielded 2x J redemptions, able to book multi-city for 90k points, but same dates, same flights using Stopover function, the J redemptions disappeared! On the phone one agent said there’s a problem on their end, he’s escalated to Aeroplan senior and will call me back (obviously not). Then 2 more agents said not their role and transferred me to North American number and kept me waiting on line until I hang up… Then last try the agent told me that she can only get it to price as separate bookings (90K points) and cannot combine as a Oneway with Stopover, saying the stopover needs to be in SIN…

So I gave up and booked the best option online of a mixed class MEL-KUL in J and KUL-TPE in Y as a Stopover. The KUL-TPE is till showing available x2 in J, should I expect a different result calling to change Y to J and wear the CAD$100 x2 change fees? Or just suck it up and do the short flight in Y…

Has anyone had similar issues?

I can see multiple options MEL-KUL, stopover, KUL-TPE see below.

This is possible because the booking isn't transiting SIN twice as the KUL-TPE leg is using Eva Air. Whereas if you try to combine a MEL-SIN-KUL, stopover, KUL-SIN-TPE the booking rules seem to prevent this as a single booking.

Just logged into Aeroplan. They have a new offer for 30% off points sale. Not sure if it is better than the July offer though.
