Because the most appropriate dates vary depending on the location.
And Ozfest has done each of these locations before AFF.

e.g. First weekend in October would have worked perfectly for everyone of the AFF events to date and it is a long weekend in a few states as well.

Would've been a bit cold in Hobart

The weekend of 2-4 September has the extremely sharp pricing SYD-PER available for the 95th birthday sale; assuming it's similar dates from other cities.

I note the current sale doesn't include some of the later dates offered, but think this is only because those dates are more an a year out. I wouldn't consider dates based on what sales are now as there are going to be many more sales. I would consider them based on whether sales are likely to cover the dates, what sporting events will be on, when school holidays are and importantly, when you're free.

Quite right. The HBA Do was in December and it was still a little chillier than in previous Do's ;)

OzFest is predicated on the "Memorial Day" USA public holiday - and it was rather cold in Hobart in late May ...

2010 (albeit a replay), 2011 and 2013 would have clashed with an AFL Grand Final.

Choose another weekend. Just make it the same weekend every year. Then people can plan in advance.

Anyway ignore me and return back to the normal programming.

I prefer flexible weekends so we can pick the best time of year depending on the location.

I think it also allows for different people to attend in different years. If a permanent weekend chosen happens to be around same dates as the annual conference in my profession, or if I happen to have a new born around those dates, it might possibly means that I'll never be able to come, no matter the year.

I like the date poll. It gives everyone a chance to vote on a date that suits the location. Can't be fairer in my book!

Now can someone please explain to me this odd acronym, AFL....often run in tandem with the words Grand Final? Another acronym jumps to the fore, whenever I hear it.....DILLIGAF! Another acronym I can think of definitely trumps the others though, that being AFF Grand Final! Surely the TVs work at the Hilton?

Given most MODs are Victorians, I guess I may as well also bid thee...So Long, and thanks for all the fish!! (Google Douglas Adams, if you're wondering! ;)

I go out of my way to avoid football of any ilk. My staff know never to have it on the tv when I am on duty. :)

Oh, AFL: Anti Football League.

Hmmm ... for a time Queensland was home to the majority - but now there's 3 with a 3000 series postcode and 3 having a 4000 series...

FYI, the first Sunday in September is Father's Day. I imagine that might rule a few people out.

Having never left Australia and only visited the East Coast & Tasmania, I'm looking forward to PER!

The voting system to choose a date is still only going to please a few people that are able to make it on the date chosen.

But I am getting off track again.

That goes without saying....but is there a better system? No matter which date is chosen anytime throughout the year, there will inevitably be people who won't be able to make it due to clashes.
