Yes there is a better system. Set an arbitrary date. It's a bit like Christmas. I'm not a fan of the date. Christmas falls in summer , frankly I would prefer it were held during a a cooler time of the year. However I'm not sure the combined might of the Christian Primates will be swayed by my reasoning.
So find a significant date that perhaps coincides with a major aviation event like say "the founding of Qantas". Or Kingsford - Smiths birthday. and stick to it. It will always clash with something or someone.
It is for example extremely annoying that the French choose to hold their national day every year on my birthday. Most inconvenient !! :-).

When we set this arbitrary date, would you like us to make sure it doesn't clash with anything you have on so you can attend for the next 10 years ;)

The OzFest event works well with the same date every year, as does the AFF Gathering with a different date every year. I'm not sure why so much is being made of the fact that we're choosing an appropriate date to visit PER though?

Ideal time to be away IMHO. ðŸ

But would mean some dads on this forum may not be "allowed leave" and would therefore miss out when they would otherwise attend. Doesn't affect me but might affect the attendance of some I would like to hang out with.

That's a different system, but I'm not sure how it's a better system. At least this way people can vote on when best suits them. An arbitary date may not suit anyone!

It might also make it more difficult to organise a group lunch/dinner. Not sure if many venues would be willing to host the 40 or so of us when they're trying to flog their father's day menu for possibly a lot more money than they would make from us.

However, for some reason, father's day is celebrated in June in SIN, so at least I'm in the clear.

Yep. I get it. 20% of the prospective attendees decide the actual date.
I'm cool with that.
I was just offering a contrary view.

Not that it really matters.
My voted for days are coming 4th or 5th.
I will have an extended break in PER / MR and just soak up the ambiance.

I have given up arguing against the concept of voting for the best date that will suit a few participants.

And in saying that my attendance at this event is not that great but attendance at Ozfest pretty good since 2005. Go figure.

And my attendance at the Ozfest is currently zero (and will likely remain that way) as that weekend never suits me.

Folks, this is the system we are working with to choose AFF #10. Accept it for what it is.

If you like, next year samh004 can just pick a city and a date. I think that would have more people upset than the current system.

Nope. I will however have the ability to plan much further ahead, besides I don't know what will clash in 10 years time.

See above response.
BTW. I don't believe the AFF gathering date does work that well. But what would I know. The date keeps changing do I find it too difficult to plan for.

I wasn't being serious about that :-)

That sounds like a lot of power, but if that's what you all want :p

I have cast my vote but will seriously look at any date, even if I didn't vote for it
