AFF Gathering #3 - Where/When

Where : Thinking outside the square here, How about Auckland?, Easy and cheap to get to from the eastern cities (EK, DJ, JQ, LA, QF), meet up with our kiwi friends, they can come to AUS next time round.

While the next gathering has been decided, a few of us have talked about an international version of the gatherings. It would be interesting to know how much support there would be for such a thing.

Do you class NZ as International :?:

I'm with notzac. It is International at this stage, although there is some talk that trans-tasman flights may be classed as domestic in the coming years.

Personally I think an AFF meetup in a major asian city, such as SIN, BKK or HKG could work quite well, as well as NZ of course.
My vote is for HKG. ;)

An offshore AFF gathering would certainly have my support, and attendance assuming all the factors affecting my availability fell into place.

The Asian cities mentioned all have their appeal. :)

NZ is also a good option.

Certainly on a cost bases, NZ is comparable with CNS, DRW or PER (unless you live near CNS, DRW or PER).

Currently ~$420 return to AKL ex MEL/SYD/BNE.

Not sure why we would need to organise a specific AFF gathering overseas. Why not tack on to an already organised FT DO?

Anyway I would possibly consider a not too distant overseas destination, read the eastern islands, that is serviced by a variety of full service carriers....

  1. Not everyone here on AFF is also on FT
  2. The same reason why we still have unique AFF DOs rather than tacking all on other FT DOs, or going to FT and creating new DOs there (rather than keeping them here)
