Once again, data above is generated from the sign-up forms, which indicates a commitment to the said events.

ba97 flight schedule will be updated within the next few days.

We're getting close to T-1 month to go on this Do. Numbers have definitely picked up a tad, but we are getting close to needing to finalise the arrangements and cement numbers with all the restaurants, bars etc.

Please, if you are participating in this do, sign up using the sign-up form (here). This includes those who have simply put info on the thread or are just signing up for one event (e.g. the golf) - please, please, please sign up using the form!. (Don't make me get on my hands and knees to beg - figuratively or literally...)

For those of you who need to update information (e.g. add flight/hotel data), please use the form (just fill it out again). We will take your latest submission as the correct information. The form takes less than 2 minutes to fill in - that's shorter than booking an air ticket!

More Event Notes...

Friday Dinner

For convenience, notwithstanding those with special dietary needs, I am proposing that everyone go with the $45 teppanyaki package. Click this link to see the post discussing my Oyama research here.

If there are objections to this, please let it be known on this thread, preferably as soon as possible!

Sunday Golf

The golf is certainly getting critical mass, so should be a great morning for all participating. In saying that, JohnK and MAX_1 do need to get numbers for tee-off groups, golf cart numbers etc. etc., so for those who are wanting to test their blade against the AFF collegiate, please sign up! There will be prizes!

Please also note that the Brisbane Golf Club has a strict dress standard. It is available at their website (click me), as well as upon request from MAX_1 and JohnK.

As I will be driving down from the Sunshine Coast for the golf and lunch if anyone does need transport between golf and Brekkie Creek happy to oblige,or pick up in Brissy to take to Brekky Creek will be fine.

Sorry for the late response.

I shall be attending. anat0l, I have filled in your webform. At this stage I have flights booked, and will be staying at the Hilton, weather permitting.

Given my later arrival time on Friday I will miss welcome drinks and dinner, but will possibly be up for some post-dinner beverages if the group kicks on, otherwise I will see you all on Saturday morning.

/MAX_1 - I am definetly interested in golf. My game is rusty to say the least, but it would be good to get a round in before lunch on Sunday if there are still spots up for grabs. What is the vehicle situation? Should I investigate a car also? Or can I mooch off someone?

Cheers
Mark

Nice to hear from you; I didn't think you had completely disappeared. :p

Glad you fixed your password.

There should be a few car spots around as a few have said they’ll be driving. If nothing else is available, I could consider an early morning trip to Brisbane, though I wont be golfing.

After speaking with some of the Brisbane organizers , I will be donating a Perpetual Golf Trophy that will be up for grabs each year. Also a trophy for the winner to keep.
As soon as they are made, I hope to post a couple of photos.

I wish to have the past winners of this Annual Golf Day acknowledged on the Trophy , so if anyone can post this information , I would appreciate.

I believe JohnK won 2009. Also where the game was played needed.

eg. 2010 SamH The Brisbane Golf Club

Thanks

This is an excellent idea MAX_1.

Not that my name will ever appear on it

We have 8 spots available for golf and your name is number 7.

Should not be a problem getting a lift from someone to/from the golf. I think drron offered pick up and delivery service from the Sunshine Coast.

Sounds like a great idea. Now let's hope the burglars bring their true handicaps with them:p Please note it is nett stroke event to stop real serious burglars. ;)

Are we talking about SamH004 and winning golf?

Why not? As you see above it is not what you know but who you know. :p

Sounds good.

Now, I just need to find some time for a practice round  ;)

Don't know if there are any spots left, but if there is, put me down for golf now, I can sleep in the office on Monday

Bar Soma is an old converted workshop from the Brisbane tram days.

For thems that wish to party on after Oyama, here's the run down (so far) of what's happening in the various venues around the Valley on Friday, October 22.

The Only(house/electro) are up from down south and are playing a special gig at The Met.

Fridays @ Family (trance downstairs/house upstairs) will be on at The Family.

Cloudland doesn't really have standout DJs and it's not a nightclub like The Met or Family, but will be fastidious about dress code and expect to pay money-money-money for drinks.

Electric Playground has no info up yet about it's details. A newish nifty little venue that is worth a look is AllOneWord, which is good for a drink and has the nifty courtyard thing going for it. The Skyroom has no website up properly yet, but it's pretty cool venue (and named for the old lounge at Hawaii International). And last but not least, The Limes Hotel has the rooftop bar thing going for it, which is awesome.

Pretty much anywhere guarantee on paying $10-20 for a cover charge to get into the clubs, no trainers, Ed Hardy, etc.

I will confirm flights over the next couple of days, but the flights that look highly probable are:

Friday 22nd:
QF1422 CBR-SYD
QF538 SYD-BNE

Sunday 24th:
QF549 BNE-SYD
QF807 SYD-CBR

Close, but not quite. My booked flights are:

Friday 22nd:
QF878 CBR-SYD (16:00 arr 16:50)
QF542 SYD-BNE (17:35 arr 18:05)

Sunday 24th, as above:
QF549 BNE-SYD (17:15 arr 19:50)
QF807 SYD-CBR (21:10 arr 22:05)

I will be a little late to the pre-dinner drinks, but should be there no later than 7pm. Unfortunately I have too many things going on, so couldn't get away earlier than that.

Nice rundown :)

IME, Cloudland is over-hyped .. drinks are over-priced and service is fairly poor. Visually stunning on the inside, but that's about it. DJs are apparently not allowed to play music that might encourage dancing, which for a nightclub seems ... odd.

Yep - it's also ironic when you consider that this Cloudland was named for the iconic old Brisbane ballroom of the same name.

A Further Boarding Announcement....

Hi everyone.

Thanks to all who have signed up. Only a couple of new signups in the last week; a few updates through the form, that is all.

This main announcement is just to give a heads up that I will be starting to go around to each of the venues to cement some numbers for reservations (and pay deposits as required). Mainly, I don't see many problems with changing a booking for more people, but there may be problems (or at least some annoyance) if there are less people than booked (in one case, the cost per person may go up due to the non-refundable deposit).

If you want in on the fun, please sign up by using the sign up form here. This includes if you are just coming to one event, or just coming for the golf.

There is a sticky in the same forum as this topic which shows the outline of events and some costing detail. It is probably not up to date - apologies for this - but the venues are set. If you do have any other questions, now would be an excellent time from any to ask them.

Just also note that on my part I will only be present for the events on Friday 22 October, as I'll be flying out and overseas on Saturday 23 October (starting with the OMG flight to SYD :(). The other BNE/OOL based hosts - Bundy Bear, samh004 and JohnK - are sure to keep you all entertained and informed (and probably much better than yours truly in any case).

So who going to photographically document the Golf Day then?
