Colour me Platinum please.

Hotel booked at HSW.

If you guys need help i wouldn't mind helping out in the committee ;)

Will keep an eye on it.

See how everything is going and might come down for the Sat night dinner.

The stragglers are going to find it difficult to book a room at one of the Hiltons.

I'm lazy, what are the prices like a night?

I'll probably go with something cheaper/convince my dad he wants to get a "stay" at the Westin :p

I doubt the Westin will be $250 like the Hilton.

I don't know either but I am guessing $200+ a night.

Cannot justify those sort of rates for a few hours sleep.

I am using points, considering 10000 points was the bounty from a $34 car rental, each night is using up the equivent of $170 spent in rentals I am happy with the value give breakfast is counted.

Way too cryptic for me.

I have earned close to 70,000 Hhonors points in ~8 years. If they are only worth 1 night in a MEL hotel then I have wasted my time earning them when I could have earned them with the equivalent of ~$238 spend on car rentals.

Loyalty programs don't reward loyalty any more and if I understand your post correctly then I can see why they are being devalued so much.

Sounds like amazing value. Can you give some more details about the car rental company and the HHonors deal?

For most of last year any hertz rental was paying over 5000 VS points, it ended mid Nov.

So you pay $34 for car rental with Hertz? That very cheap. I rent with them all the time and never came close to that rate. Do you just hire a basic car and don't add any cover?

I book a Yaris and no extras.

Some of my rentals paid just over 3,000 miles per rental. I still wouldn't go and waste it on a hotel room for 1 night even if the room included breakfast.

The govt rate at HOTP (if still available and you qualify) is usually very reasonable ;)

Does AUStudy (Centrelink) count for a government rate? :p
FWIW, I have never been asked for govt ID when I book this rate at the various Hiltons I have stayed incl. HOTP with one exception, Hilton Athens. Having said that, I always book with my work email address which ends in .gov.au ;)

Markis10 has access to a corporate rate with very generous discount.

Best I can do is ~$50-$60 with Amex Platinum CDP.
