Count me in too (perhaps we need a separate thread?)

I personally still prefer the single piece tags like the AA ones - not sure if they are able to be sourced here.

I have dropped an email to these guys: Home - Bag Tags Inc. to see if they ship to Oz as they quote the following prices:

Code:
Quantity Standard (3.375" x 2.125")	Large (3" x 4")
100-249 $1.15 $1.35
250-499 $0.95 $1.15
500-999 $0.85 $1.05
1000-3000 $0.75 $0.95
Over 3000 *Please call 877 BAGTAGS for a quote

One would have thought in this day and age where photographs can be printed on just about anything (Big W quoted about $10 for a photo printed on a luggage tag - didn't see one, so can't comment on the quality), someone would be able to print PVC luggage tags at a reasonable price.

I expect the issue with some of the manufacturers is that the fixed set up cost will be quite high.

I'll take 4 pcs..... seeing that they are from the QF supplier!!:lol:

Yeah, that is the main problem oz-mark, the setup costs are offensive, but at the end of the day, if we order another lot of tags, the price would be a lot lower

So $1650 was for 400 tages? 100 people with 2 tags each?

I'm meeting our company printer this afternoon, I'll ask him about it.

Are we talking a single plastic card with tie on, or the two cards pivoting at the corner like my QF one does?

Munital, can you PM with you email address, I'll give you his details after I speak to him as I'm off o/s on Wednesday.

Cheers,

Matt

All,

My "old mate" printer www.informprint.com is happy to do a run of tags and happy to work on getting the price right.

With permission from you all I'll ask "old mate" if he will take the orders and payments and post them out. (has online ordering now so it might be relatively simple)

He is happy to not to rip us off but doesn't want to make a loss during this part of the finanical cycle.

I'll report back tomorrow on what he says and I'm happy to take on organising it if someone can give me the basic graphics we want, "old mate" has graphics people who can clean it up.

I need a sample graphic please that I can pass on and will report back with a quality check, either it's "airline quality" or probably not worth it I'd suggest.

Matt

Sam,

Remember that Oz Fest it is a FT Do and that many of those involved are on FT and AFF. Do you propose that this group have a third type of label :?:

I was thinking FT members have yellow tags, AFF have blue, and both have both :p

But seriously, I’d be down for 4.

I guess we need to collaborate on a final design now.

Yeah put me down for two as well... Sitting around at airports can be a kinda lonely experience (there is only so many times I can walk through DF shops and only so much I can eat in the lounges), so it'd be nice to see some AFF members around from time to time, if nothing else to start putting faces to names...

Put me down for 2. :)

Appreciate the effort put in so far by our dedicated members. Thanks! Keen to see how some of the other options pan out too (not that $16.50 is a lot to spend, but if we can do them cheaper, we might find many more members taking up the offer :)).

Cheers,
- Febs.

I'll take at least 2, perhaps 4. Price isn't a big issue for me unless it is off the planet (which given the sensibility here, probably won't get to that point).

Geez this sounds corny if it's my design and I want quite a lot of them.

I've already been cc'ed in a couple of PMs....looks like we're gonna get some traction, but I better butter up / polish up the designs I guess.

Now it seems to most people that #2 (the one with the departures board + Australia country outline) is the most popular; we also have a sizable contingent for that design but either high contrast the IATA codes in, say, silver or something or get rid of them altogether.

I can produce some proofs that reflect these (although silver is a hard colour to pick in Publisher / any program, let alone when you have to request this from the printer/producer).

My main concern is contrast and complexity; i.e. it may look good on screen, passable on standard bond paper, but when high glossed printed onto a plastic card, this is a whole different ball game (you could get an unintelligible mess). As you can tell from the design, the gradient shading and washed backgrounds play a key part in the design (very different to say QF's bag tags which are much simpler, or NZ's GE bag tag which uses a lot of distinct colours with no gradient fills - they also use a lot of raised edges, but that's probably bordering on expensive).

And if you haven't guessed already, I am not a commercial artist or designer and I have never had to prepare a publication for professional printing. So:
  • Can someone give me some preparation guidelines so that the design can be handed off to a printer easily?
  • Does anyone have any other suggestions for design? Can we confirm a design? (Does anyone want me to make some other proofs?)
In particular, size is something which is a bit hard for me to gauge. Of course, what you see on the screen must fit to something probably not bigger than a standard business card. Take this into consideration when you see the size of the AFF logo and the AFF motif in the lower right hand corner.
  • Can anyone suggest, give some advice or general cautionary advice about colours, fills, designs, etc. with respect to when it will be printed, so that we don't end up with a mess?

anat0l - can I ask where you got the vectorised graphics that you used in your designs? The only reason I ask, is because I'm surprised that one of your options wasn't simply the arrowhead logo with the 'frequent flyer' text on the blue background (sort of like the QFF tags)? Were the images you had too small to blow up to that kind of size?

Have you considered testing out your designs on one of those $10 Big W tags? I know it's not the most economical way to go about it, but it would at least give you an idea of the process and your colour selection.

In fact, as an alternative to printing in bulk, what about simply allowing the design to be downloaded and printed by members (at Big W or elsewhere) at their convenience - more expensive overall, but it does shift the burden away from one person at least, as you seem to be shouldering a great deal of it. :)

I’d agree that it looks too cluttered with all the codes, not sure if they were sharpened up any that it would look better, but your design appears to be the one.

I recall that admin didn’t provide a particularly big logo, but I could be wrong there.

I think it came from the front page of the site.

After much nagging, I was supplied with a vector (resizable) image of the AFF arrowhead with AFF motif - I could then use a graphics program to segregate the components/layers.

That's one simple idea - even munitalP's first pass tag (see the first few posts of this thread) would be a good idea in light of this comment. A more complex tag is certainly not necessarily the best.

I didn't know Big W did these - I'll have to enquire (when I have time )

Me shouldering a great deal of it? Hardly!

There are others here that are more calling things; I just have my designs (in MS Publisher format at the moment).

And then we can all earn some more QFF points for our purchase of tags-magnificent.
