AFF Medical Meet?

there will be another one next year
This is just opportunistic to gauge interest

Wow - there's a lot of stuff going on here. Fortunately this is a planning thread. There seem to be a lot of ideas floating around.

In principle, I think that it's a good idea for people to get together at the Christmas AFF meet - although there are plans in place - but as drron suggested, superimposing the Medical Meet on the AFF Christmas meet means those that are trying to get to the medical meet are now looking at difficulties in going as they're going to go to an event where the dinner is sold out and it may clash with AFF Christmas dinner official events (putting an event on the Saturday would clash with the JQ35 run, and many have already booked flights back out on Sunday, I would think (I'm staying until Monday, but I imagine I would be in the minority).

My initial suggestion is to aim to get an informal gathering of the doctors/medical/allied health/academic/interested parties together to socialise at the AFF meet as we likely would anyway at that event. I would think that the formal AFF Medical Meet still needs a 4-6 month lead time so that we can plan for it, in the same way that munitalP plans for events well in advance and people can lock in.

It seems from reading the threads that there is considerable interest and excitement about this event, and I think that's a wonderful thing, as well as excitement from the organisers too! I believe we are still talking about a formal AFF meet with a lead time that allows people to lock in ahead of time and make arrangements. I'll admit that I have been quiet about this (lots happening for me at the moment) and for my part I haven't been as communicative with the other organisers about getting things rolling. I'll try to change that now on my part.

Not much interest for a meet before the christmas do except for a get together of who ever is going anyway
90-120 mins is best
short succinct topics
in a meeting room with bar service available!

I'll liaise with beardoc and Princess about teh next plan

Christmas is a pretty poor time for leave for many medicos I feel, at least in my hospitals. The system keeps running but anyone with kids wants the time off so leave is at a premium. When I worked for SCGH, Dec/early Jan leave was booked out 24 months in advance for junior doctors. I would prefer any time next year, maybe March/April?

Yeah I suspect christmas time will be out for me, as all the other registrars have progeny.

I would be very interested in attending. I was thinking about those of us that may want to get the ATO to subsidise the event:
Since this is broadly a medical meet and we are all frequent flyers, why not have a short informal "airline medicine" meeting / presentation in said meeting room with a bar?
Medical incidents on board and passenger health type topics always go down very well at meetings.
Confident I know someone that might be able to help on this front ;)

Would be interested in the Medical meeting but certainly can't do Christmas time... Around March would be good - time to prepare work plans around it, no major holidays that necessitate attendees competing for leave. As long as it's not on at the same time as a major motorsport event I'll be there!

Since the motorsport calendar is now largely confirmed, I can say that the weekends of 2/3 March and 9/10 March are good for me, since the 16/17th and 23/24th are F1 races  30/31st is also motorsport-free but no idea what country I will be in that week...

I think it is time that the AFF medical practitioners had multi layers of administration added to help with the meet up organisation! :p

Forgive me - I've had a two fairly major accounting issues to deal with as a matter of urgency so have sort of dropped the ball. I'll be right back with this shortly.
