AFF Member Stock Discussion

Found this list of capital raising since COVID19 started from Maybe. Obviously not all involved SPP's, but interesting nonetheless. My feeling was that there have been significantly fewer SPP's over the last ~5 years, which he appears to agree with. I'm going to call a few brokerages tomorrow to see if any allow purchases of 1 share (i.e. less than $500 marketable parcel), or worst case, confirm that it is okay to retain 1 share.

Do you know if Stake allow you to sell your shares less 1 (ie. keeping 1 share)? They have an offer for 10 free trades per month for a year (with additional trades at $3).
I have tried this today with Stake, and can confirm it allows you to sell all shares minus 1. $6 per stock (buy and sell) is highly competitive.

I think the $500 requirement is part of the ASX rules, would be interested to know if there's a way to do this without buy and sell for each shares though.

I can't recall when I last posted on MFG except to say that I know I predicted further downside and it has come along. I can see it testing the $8 level next and a break to the downside from there will likely see it plunging to close to $4.

It may look cheap now but I certainly advise against anyone buying in.
ASX:MFG. The close today below $10 signifies a further fall to the potential resistance at $8.

Though last week ANZ share trading bought me 1 share on 16 occasions part filling my order. Each generated an email.

It's strange how that happens. I have seen it with my broker (HSBC Share Trading) and as a result, I switched off the endless email notifications.

MPL ?
Suffering a significant but "hopefully" single expense… when does it become a buy ?
How do we measure the brand damage, the ensuing lower turnover and profit… and market value ?
We have a few…...

Extract your barge pole, disinfect it and keep MPL at the other end of it for now. There is no telling how low the share price could go at this point in time.

Sorry to hear that you own some. You could consider cutting your loss now that the trading halt has been lifted.

You could consider cutting your loss

why on earth would I do that ! …t'would be a dummies play to sell now
There is no actual loss, just a valuation hiccup...they will recover in time and in the Interim will move heaven and earth to prop up the dividend stream ( and the share price)

I'm going to buy more EVT.
A little birdy tells me that "Rydges" plan to add another 20 odd properties to their portfolio. Hotel Alba opens in ADL next year, another Rydges is being built in Port Adelaide and a QT is also coming.
One ADL property is for sale with an option to franchise back.
Sydney Central is/will undergoing a major refurbishment. North Sydney on the market/sold.
Rydges MEL reopens early next year after major refurbishment.
A new property for Wellington (NZ) Airport. A first for NZ it will have direct access to the terminal. Another property for Rotorua.
A lot is happening with EVT. I'm not in for a quick buck but I'm confident for the medium to long term. YMMV.

First rule of buying stocks is that the price immediately drops. That is my experience as well.
Second rule is price always go up immediately after you have sold.
I was lucky to get on WA1 big news at lunchtime, SP still rose and sold by days end, got myself some loose change for the weekend.

Was risky move jumping on skyrocketing SP, yes. Great Ann thou.

why on earth would I do that

It's called "limiting your loss and protecting your capital". No capital = no trading!

Recovery, if it comes, could be a very long time. You are clearly emotionally attached to your holding in MPL. That is a mistake.

Spicing up the thread Mr.O ?
I disagree with the above form of words and opine that spiels like this fleece a lot of folks of hard saved cash.
I am in Investor, not a trader, and repeat that I have not and will not sustain a loss on MPL.
The snipe about emotional attachment comes from the sharp share brokers fleecing guide and is a bit silly in the context of the normally mature discussions on this thread.

There's no need to get personal. I'm not into spiels. I don't know what guide you are referring to and I'm not sniping.

Whether investing or trading, controlling one's emotions is still important. Knowing and when and how to take a loss and moving on is equally important.

I hope you don't sustain a loss, I don't wish that on anyone but it is something that happens.

If you are currently holding a losing position, you may find that you money is tied up for a long time awaiting a possible return to profit. There is no guarantee of that happening. Nobody can say whether MPL will maintain their dividends as that is predicated on them continuing to have the cash reserves available to pay them. If people start to leave MPL due to the data theft, thier income and profitability will be impacted.
