... I'd feel guilty if I'm granted access and then don't contribute to the sheet. And I'm not ready to do that yet (better when I start seeking them out).
i have not come accross anything worth adding apart from what has already been contributed, so now I feel guilty after reading your post.

I posted this in the wrong status run thread so here tis again for those that aren't viewing both...

We have some updates to the SS... In the VA 'Points Run' sheet I've added a couple of new columns to reflect the true value of points/SC by accounting for the cost or value of the points that you each personally hold. I've started this off at 2 cents per point, but this is just a start and anyone can change the value to whatever thye like according to their circumstances. But in the interest of consistency to measure a standard set of result, I'd like to see if we can collectively agree upon a number. I've also incorporated the co-pay into the equation. Produces some very interesting results in direct contrast to the current 'sorted' value system.

I've also added some test forex data and calculations in the 'Other/Partners' sheet which I would like some other folks to check out and see if it suits. It means we will need to start entering the values in the local currency and define what that currency is (3 letters - defined in columns further along).

I suppose "contributions" can come in other ways besides adding new runs to the sheet. For example:
  • Checking existing runs for price and availability.
  • For runs that seem a bit more hairy, how to book them if can't be done the conventional way.
  • Making a comment on different runs, e.g. a run that's good if you're short on cash but plenty of points, or vv.
  • Actually booking a run, undertaking it, then reporting back on your field experience

Since I don't have time and money to do any of those at the moment, I don't want to ask for access at the moment then do nothing. That's unfair to everyone else.

Should probably add that this is all just my opinion. And none of this should ever take away from the credit appropriately given to lobo76 and others who have made key contributions to the spreadsheet, which I imagine is growing rather large now.

I guess I did correct the applicable SC's on a couple of runs. And I did try to book flights 3 times, so I could report on the experience ;) Unfortunately, no seats all 3 tries. :(

I think we all appreciate the effort that has been put into this reference though. At least I would like to think so.

Yea this'd be good. I've got a heap of pending applicants with single digit post counts but who have been members for months or even years...

One of these would be me. Make no mistake, I frequent, I'm just very passive about it (read: I'm a lurker!).

I've not done a lot of work with Google Docs spreadsheets before, but I know this works in Excel - For the E-Partner Runs sheet, We'd either wanna freeze the top two rows (where you have currency data) or (maybe preferably) create a "data" sheet, where we put that data, and reference it out? (Otherwise when the sheet gets sorted one row will always have the currency data on it, could get messy).

Just a thought though. Didn't want to change anything you were in the middle of!

It's hard to contribute too when the very topic we're all talking about is meant to be hush hush!

I read here a lot though.

I'm another one of those lurkers who haven't applied for access to the spreadsheet because I'm not really sure it is fair for me to do so given my lurker status is fairly well ingrained... I may read here daily and check in on the mobile app but to be honest I'm not sure whether I'd be able to source/track down runs that are at a level to be included (having no idea what sort of things are in the spreadsheet *laughs* - catch-22) and, a number of years ago, I worked for VA briefly... I don't keep any contact with anyone there anymore but the taint of ex-employee may hurt me :D

I'm sure I'm missing out on all the deals and financially-savvy ways to maintain/improve my status... but I'll keep on doing what I'm doing I guess and hope the runs and flights I do are somewhat smart. I remain curious about what deals A-- or B-- or such may be though... it's so secret squirrel.

Sounds like great work from lobo and others involved :)

How does one apply for access to this? Sounds like a great idea! I've just started to become interested in doing a status run. Doing a few domestic business class returns on VA, over the next couple of months, while there are some specials on.

Unfortunately, with 1 post the chances of acceptance are pretty slim as the list is well guarded for obvious reasons, that said, there are plenty of threads here that could help you with a status run if you search for them, and potentially, provide a few more details on how many SC you need, what level you are, what level you're aiming for, where you're based, future travel etc etc... ;)

samh004, cheers for that. After posting, I did a bit more reading and realized that it was a post # based criteria. All good :)

With my current travel planned for the next month, I should be able to get platinum if I book business for all of them. But my credit card may not appreciate that so much haha.

I'm Sydney based, and I'm finding the better status run options are more available from other cities.

Ultimately, I'm hoping to at least tea h hold by August when I head over to Europe as I'll be doing lots of flying between cities and layovers.

Will have a glance through some other threads.

Cheers again.
