I'm not a capture-photos-whilst-travelling kind of person, so not sure whether this will become a 'proper' trip report or not.

With that disclaimer out of the way, the family Scarlett is travelling over to Europe for the school holidays and because I'm not a normal person, we're taking a slightly convoluted routing. I have applied the AFF adage of why fly direct when you can connect and maybe stretched it a little.

Each month, the AFF editorial team chooses their favourite AFF member trip report from the previous month, with the winner receiving a special banner on their profile (which also links to their winning trip report) for that month.

We're doing this to recognise and show our appreciation to AFF members who've put a lot of time and effort into writing sensational trip reports that have informed and entertained us all.

The finalists are all the 'Trip Report of the Month' winners for this year, since we started awarding this prize in June. The winners of that are generally trip reports that were completed in the previous month.

Very late on this TR as we have just returned to Australia again after an extensive year of travel. We have probably spent around 7 months on the road and sea this year.

This particular TR covers 14 days in the middle of a much longer trip that included a cruise from Brisbane to Vancouver, flights and stays in Taiwan, Korea and China, a train trip from China to Laos, cruises and travel to other provinces while in China over a period of five months.

Rather than do a very lengthy TR covering the whole trip I have decided to break it into a few specific ones. The first report and probably...

This was hard to pick because a lot of AFF members have written some great trip reports over the holidays. Many of these have been very high quality. It's great to see and the entire AFF community really appreciates the effort that people put into these!
