I have made speculative bookings Wed / Thur / Fri nights at my usual hotel.

Waiting to confirm where I will be working before I lock flights in.

Oh fiddlesticks!

I'm trying one of the wines that l on-sold to Alzoam for the Cab dinner. It's an 09 with a bazillion gold medals, which was had for under Thirty Sheets a bottle (a BWS 25% off 6 bottle buy complete bargain). It's similar in style to the winner from the January dinner. And I can tell it's going to go down well on the night...! So smooth, but rich and velvety.

Alzoam - (I feel like Lewis Hamilton) I take it back. Find your own Cabs! This one is too good!!! Only joking!

Wine Lovers coming - you are in for a real treat, when you try this wine ...

And, as a more important aside, we are up to 14 locked in now! Katy +1

Oh Wozza, you're such a tease...

To continue with the wine teasing, I've also now selected my wine for the night. I was going to bring along my current Fox Gordon sibling darlings, but I'm anticipating that others may be bringing some of this wine along. So I am instead opting to bring along a 10 year old monster I picked up at auction recently. Here's the tease:

The grapes were picked during the dying days of summer as butterflies were hugging the sun kissed daisies and cicadas cried with tears of joy. Each grape was gently caressed to ensure optimum fruit extraction. The wine was then foot-trodden by scantily clad cherubs before being basket pressed and then aged in a combination of French and American oak for 18 months. The resulting wine is tight and densely fragrant, inky black and still a baby after ten years. The flavours are a concentrated and complex mix of dark black fruits, violets, cassis and red currant with hints of dried herb. The secondary ageing characteristics are just starting to develop including complex layers of chocolate, truffle, cigar box and bell pepper.

I can’t wait to share it with everyone.

P.S. Some of this is even true! You'll have to come along next Friday to find out what.

I've just noticed that we seem to have two threads now, which is very confusing to simple-minded folk like myself. I've chosen to post to the “Wine Lovers” meetup rather than the “Wine Lover” meetup as I don’t fancy meeting up with myself next Friday.

AC has said the same thing. I didn't make the change to the Jan thread, and I don't know how to change it. I agree. It would be useful to have the old thread changed back to Jan to avoid further confusion. Experienced members - are you able to help?

Ps. Love the tease (and the dodgy flourish in the middle!!). Sounds amazing. I won't Google the quote to spoil the surprise!

It's okay, I've embellished it sufficiently that googling should at least produce ambiguous results. As I said, some of it is true, but I deliberately left out a few bits that would probably have given it away. The stuff about the cherubs is all true though...

AFAIK you can change the thread title back by either replying to a post with the correct title, or going advanced and editing the title to suit

Or PM a moderator... Possibly the easiest in this case.

Doesn't change the title of the thread on the Frequent Flyer Wine Lovers subforum - just the title of your individual post. A mod needs to change the thread name.

I am fairly set on the older Cab Sav I mentioned up-thread, but just found a 6pk of some 12s which would be drinking quite well now... Decisions Decisions.

I am seriously loving the amount of Cabernet chatter on here!

Not sure if this is an appropriate place to mention, but we have teamed up with Halliday to give away a luxury weekend in Coonawarra. Fly direct from ADL on RossAir, then get put up for a couple of nights, with great meals and experiences to add on. I'm not sure if it's ok to post the direct link to a competition on here, so instead I'll just link to our FB page. http://www.facebook.com/coonawarra

We have a lock in!

14 people will have the chance to try 16 Cab Sauvs in Sydney next Friday evening. As we share a meal, great wine, chit-chat and life. No doubt they'll be a bit of banter too, especially if I pour wine all over the tables, like I did last time (I was Silver Service trained in my student days. Honestly!).

JMPhoto has kindly organised the first wines. Not sure what they are yet, but one's from Koonara. The other from Raidis Estate. Talking of Coonawarra Cabs. The region and wines are getting a good dollop of PR in the hard and email versions of Wine Companion this month / weekend. There's some great reads, if you are a subscriber. Raidis gets a mention, I saw.

In terms of the other 14 wines, there's some classics. Surprisingly, there's many Cabs being represented from outside Coonawarra. None from overseas yet. There's two Langtons classified wines. A (young) Halliday 97 pointer. A 16 year old Coonawarra. A $90 wine. Many over 7 years. And some of our mof_ (younger) favourites. It's a diverse range, celebrating the rich diversity of Cab Sauvs this fine country has to offer. And, I'm still waiting to hear from 4 people. So no doubt that diversity will continue.

For those that need to respond, please do so offline. If you didn't get my email, then please PM me through this forum.

See you all next Friday...

I think I have roughly worked out a plan. Flights and Accom booked. I unexpectedly have to attend a board meeting to present something on the other side of the country on Wednesday, but all is still good. I arrive in Sydney in time for Friday's festivities.

Wozza - have replied to your mail.
