AFF's 225,000th post thread....

It seems there’s been an error somewhere since serfty last gave an update. We’ve lost threads and posts. Wonder how that happened? Or is this just scheduled deletions of old threads?

Or has AFF been infiltrated by evil do'ers intent on rigging the result.;)

You’re right, it is going down. admin is online though, so I’d guess he’s deleting old threads that have been locked or long dead. Gives a few a chance!

Posting rate has been high (even allowing for the deleted posts). I expect the posting rate will drop over the next 5 days.

217,057 posts when JohnK announced the contest on 20 Nov 09
224,093 posts a few minutes ago. 222 posts per day from the contest announcement
If the prediction is to be correct, (from the recent post)
297 posts per day needed by kpc
285 posts per day needed by oz_mark
281 posts per day needed by Mal
179 posts per day needed by Samh004
147 posts per day needed by JohnK
118 posts per day needed by NIGNELINOZ
111 posts per day needed by drron
102 posts per day needed by straitman
88 posts per day needed by Mwenenzi
72 posts per day needed by Mutual IP
25 posts per day needed by ejb

It would appear that we have lost ~366 posts from the post count.

This is post #283836 reporting post count as 224,280

This is post #283920 reporting post count as 223,998

This is post #284015 reporting post count as 224,093

In order to have a fair contest the original post count should be used otherwise it is meaningless.

I make the actual post count at 224,533 posts. So less than 500 posts to go....

Hmmm. Isn't that referring to something unrelated? Like when someone deletes a post not when ~366 posts go missing as the contest nears it's climax.

There is no way I can do 102 posts per day especially when I lost 8 posts overnight.

I always thought this should be based on the actual post count including deleted posts, after all, most were there for the right reasons. The next contest should be the 300,000th post :p

But as oz_mark pointed out, the rules say deleted posts don’t count, and this is per scheduled deletions by admin most likely, so it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

There was a time when the actual post count and the post number were almost the same except for deleted posts. And then the post number shot up after an upgrade to the forum software a few years ago. Nothing wrong with using the actual post count except when something like this happens.

But as straitman pointed out, the rules say deleted posts don’t count, and this is per scheduled deletions by admin most likely, so it’s nothing out of the ordinary.
I have never heard of scheduled post deletions on AFF. What may have happened is some posts disappearing due to technical reasons beyond the control of admin.

I think that was oz_mark :!:

Whoops, was looking at the wrong post when I mentioned you, but was thinking of the right post.

Locked threads because of flames, threads so old that the information contained is well out of date, some other reason I can’t think of…

If someone starts another technical issues thread about deleted posts and the reason AFF was down for a little while this morning, then maybe we’ll find out :p

Perhaps admin could enlighten us mere mortals:D

It was not scheduled.

admin indeed removed several sub-forums yesterday; this was in the process of ad-hoc housekeeping.

Getting close now....

Perhaps the ad-hoc housekeeping could have been scheduled a week later?
