AFR rumour [confirmed] - SQ to launch SIN-CBR-WLG

One thing I see is that if oil price stays low, and SQ can make the route work, AirAsia X and Cathay Pacific could be next airlines serving CBR.

Also SIN-CBR-WLG would be the only route connecting capital cities of 3 countries together with single flight number (for SQ).

I understand that SQ & QF have int J lounges at ADL?

No. Domestic lounges are used. Such as EK using the domestic Qantas Club for its passengers. Having spent a lot of time transiting ADL airport I have to say it is one of the best in Australia (live music in the concourse was great!) and watching the international set up the flexibility and use seemed to work very well. It will limit them for expansion though with limited times/gates available for flights.

Anyone wanna guess the flight times?

How about this:

SIN-CBR 8:40pm-7:40am+1
CBR-WLG 09:00am - 14:30pm
WLG-CBR 21:30pm-23:30pm
CBR-SIN 1:00am - 5:40am

I'd expect tighter turnaround during connections than this ... They seem to do A330s in about 1hr 5 (BKK, MNL) or even less at KUL.

I don't think a 1am departure ex CBR will be very popular here

Just heard on the news that it may start in August with a 1 hour turnaround in CBR.

A 0100 departure would be especially grim in winter. I wonder if there is likely to be problems that the airport owners, the Snows, fought against with housing developments anywhere near the flight path.

I would have thought a ~6pm departure for CBR-SIN would be most likely.

Getting ready for the announcement at 11am. They were setting this up when I came in on VA1226 last night.

Well, it's just been officially announced by the CEO, Singapore Airlines.

I'm sure I just heard him add that services would commence 20 September using 777 aircraft. It was difficult to hear, so will try to confirm.

Also present, John Borghetti, AirNZ CEO Christopher Luxon, Deputy PM Warren Truss, plus bunch of others.

That's what AusBT has too: Singapore Airlines Canberra Airport Wellington flights - Australian Business Traveller

Can't see the flights loaded into the booking engine yet though.

Pretty close to my guess. Maybe I was using daylight saving time whereas the initial times are non daylight saving.

I always thought it is better to have overnight flights from CBR-SIN to allow daytime connection all over Asia and Europe.

Canberra international flights: Singapore Airlines launches Capital Express route

The first flight will land in September, subject to regulatory approval, but tickets will go on sale from next week. It will be known as the Capital Express route.
The Canberra-Singapore leg will have the flight number SQ292 and the Wellington leg will be SQ291.

An economy ticket between Canberra and Singapore will cost from $650 and between Canberra and Wellington will cost from $469. Business class fares will start from $3166 and $1450 respectively.
Canberra will effectively be a stop between Singapore and Wellington.
Flights from Singapore will arrive on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 8.35am and the depart for Wellington at 9.50am.
In the other direction, flights from Wellington will arrive on the same days, arriving at 10.05pm and departing for Singapore at 11.30pm. The airline is taking advantage of Canberra not having a curfew for flights.
The airport says it has a customs and arrivals area that is curently empty, and will spend the next six months setting them up at gate six, next to the Virgin lounge. Virgin and Singapore will be offering codeshare flights.

Tickets on sale from Monday Jan25

"$650 [to Singapore] would only get you to Sydney on the Kangaroo. $450 [to WLG] would only get you just past Goulburn".

Comment from Canberra Airport Director Terry Snow during the Q&A (to rather anxious laughter, I must say!)

I can book CBR - SIN next week for $688 on QF or $579 on DJ/SG

I think the quoted fares ($650, $450) were on a return basis. $688 will only get you one way CBR to SIN ... although granted return is only ~$1000-1100
