AFR rumour [confirmed] - SQ to launch SIN-CBR-WLG

A wise move kicking this off towards the end of (or after?) the fickle fog months. If it survives, I suspect a few cooler month arrivals will touch down in SYD first.

Slightly OT, but I just happened to be in WLG last weekend when it was closed for the night due to a pea soup fog that rolled in around 4pm!
MEL is closer to SIN then SYD. If CBR were fogged in, the flight crew would know about it before they were close enough to CBR to make SYD a better option then MEL.

Fares have been loaded and tickets are purchaseable from SQ right now. CBR-WLG from $234 for Economy Super Saver, up to $614.80 for Economy Flexi. Business Saver $724.50, Business Flexi $920.40.

Those are OK prices actually.

No awards up yet, get the error:

There is no ZONE info defined for this itinerary.

And not yet on lifemiles either!

Little bit of trivia: Canberra will be once more a star alliance destination, after an absence of the alliance there for 15 years and 8 days.

Not allowing WLG-CBR one-way either (for me anyway).

CBR-WLG is AUD388.40 return - very reasonable.

CBR-xWLG-AKL is showing as AUD709.40 return - not so reasonable.

Just buy cheap WLG-AKL return on NZ separately. Of course then you don't get protected but there are plenty of domestic NZ flights.

Just booked on CBR-WLG in Y on day 1. Should be very cool flying out of CBR.

Nice work! I'm trying to be tricky and book MEL-CBR-SIN-CBR-MEL on the one ticket in Y to keep the cost low but not working online.

Does anyone think that routing will be possible, despite direct MEL-SIN flights available?

Got one of the final few Y Super Savers to WLG. :D Thinking I might head up to AKL and try EK on the way back just to tick another airline off my list though...

Also, the SQ booking engine is way quicker at ticketing than QF's. It's a bit depressing.

Codeshares aren't loaded into VA booking system yet either. Gave them a call to confirm it. Hoping they show up today.

I don't want to miss out, but I don't want to pay too much either coming from MEL.

With a view to attending a Schiller concert in Germany in late September, I just booked CBR-SIN-DUS and return for about $1250. OK, it's only Y, but at that price.....

At least I hope it's booked. During the payment phase, nothing appeared when it looked as though it was going to do the Verified by Visa thing. Should I be calling SQ to check? I have a PNR, but the web site said something about it not being ticketed yet. (This is the first time that I've ever booked SQ, so it's a bit new to me.)

The flight times are such that I'll be spending quite a few hours in SIN, but hopefully it'll give me a chance to have a bit of a look around. (Anything's got to be better than twiddling my thumbs in SYD or MEL instead, right?)

EDIT: I called SQ, who confirmed that my first attempt had failed. Started again (and used the mobile app instead), and all good now.

Great price to Europe! SIN is a much better airport to connect in than MEL or SYD by a long shot.

I started by looking at CBR-SIN-FRA return, which can be had for about $1640. That seemed quite reasonable, but knowing that SQ also flies direct from SIN to MUC and DUS, I checked those as well. Nothing to MUC to get excited about, but when I found $1256.60 (return) to DUS, on dates that work for me, I got excited. :D

I would both agree and disagree. For flights to LHR the SIN connection is better, but for most Europe flights the connection through SIN is abysmal unless planning to stopover, do some daytime sightseeing or have meetings. In both directions the connections are of the worst type - early morning arrivals and late evening departures.

Just a quick one.. Star Alliance Gold (Avianca SM).. Access to VA lounge, how likely is it? Or have I missed an announcement?
