Darwin International Airport has confirmed that budget airline Air Asia is pulling out of Darwin.
The airline began flying between Darwin and Bali in 2010 but cut its service back from six flights a week to four last year.
The Northern Territory Government paid $56,000 last financial year to advertise the airline's services.
Chief Minister Paul Henderson says Air Asia's withdrawal will not stop the Government from supporting new airline services.

The DRW>Asia connection has always perplexed me. Yes, they are close geographically - but there doesn't appear to be the mass of population to make these services work. This isn't the first DRW-Asia route that has been cut... I wonder why they keep trying?

Because flight times are horrible and connections are difficult to achieve.

And a price war with another LLC on a route with little traffic ... well one had to ask themselves how long they could support it for. Seems they found better pickings somewhere else.
Darwin has only a percentage of the population as compared to other capitals yet have similar amount of DPS flights per week (divided amongst several airlines).
