Air New Zealand Delays/Cancellations

On Saturday 8 April due to thunderstorms in MEL, NZ725, the scheduled 1720 hours arrival ex AKL diverted to SYD.

NZ726, the 1835 hours MEL - AKL has been cancelled.

In addition, QR904 had made an unscheduled intermediate stop in ADL; SQ207 from SIN made it almost to MEL then diverted to SYD before again journeying to MEL and onwards to SIN as SQ208.

On Wednesday 12 April, the mid afternoon 1515 hours NZ125 did not take off from AKL until 1824 for its journey to MEL. B789 ZK-NZI should arrive at 2008, 168 minutes tardy.

Sunday 30 April sees NZ792, the 1145 hours ADL - AKL taking off at 1226 (A320 ZK-OJI) with arrival predicted as 1907 hours, 37 minutes past the allotted.

On Friday 16 June, NZ855, the scheduled 0805 hours arrival in MEL ex WLG and the return flight NZ852, the 0915 hours ex MEL have been cancelled. Presumably for the latter passengers might be accommodated on NZ722, the 0840 hours MEL - AKL or NZ898, the 0905 hours MEL - CHC and then in either case a NZ domestic flight to reach WLG, at the cost of greatly increased (more than 50 per cent) travel time gate-to-gate. Annoying!

Saturday 15 July 2017 has NZ729, the eealy evening 1836 hours AKL - MEL that was airborne at 1923 with A320 ZK-OJC likely to arrive at 2119 tonight, 39 minutes late.

On Saturday 29 July, the wind she has been a'blowin in MEL with the departure of NZ124 (B773 ZK-OKM, the 1210 hours MEL - AKL) not having resulted in takeoff by 1323, so it should be at least 45 late into the NZ non-capital harbour city.

Wind gusts at MEL were as high as 104kmh at 1100 but have since slightly moderated to 85 - 93kmh. Wind is from the north.

Sunday 30 July sees NZ792 (A320 ZK-OJB, the 1145 hours ADL - AKL that took off at 1258) suggested as arriving at 1900 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

On a foggy Wednesday 2 August in MEL with visibility upon touchdown at 0831 hours 550 metres, NZ855, the 0605 hours WLG - MEL that took off on time at 0614 is arriving with A320 ZK-OJE at 0839 hours, 34 minutes late.

Friday 4 August has NZ849 (1600 hours from WLG across to SYD that was in the sky at 1740 with A320 ZK-OJC) suggested as arriving 81 minutes late at 1906 hours.

On Friday 11 August, the 0815 hours AJKL - ADL that was in the sky at 0833 (A320 ZK-OJI) looks to be arriving half an hour late at 1115.

Saturday 12 August has NZ722 (0840 hours morning MEL - AKL, A320 ZK-OJH) not having taken off until 0955. Arrival is delayed until a predicted 1459 hours, 44 minutes behind the eight ball.

NZ125 (Monday 14 August 1515 hours mid afternoon AKL - MEL that took off at 1608 with B789 ZK-NZI) should arrive at 1758, 38 minutes late.

The ongoing lack of aviation fuel continues to plague Air NZ with NZ175 from AKL to PER arriving slightly more than two hours late on Tuesday 19 September as it had to refuel in MEL.

The list of cancellations has increased while AKL - LAX, SFO and YVR flights are among those forced to refuel en route, with AKL - DPS, HKG and NRt flights all refuelling in BNE.

Quite a nice little unexpected earner for Australian capital city airports:

This must be costing Air NZ a lot of money. No wonder its shares have dropped.

Delays look to be intensifying rather than moderating in AKL. Note the comment in this article about Pacific airports (which I assume means locations such as NAN in Fiji) are also running low on fuel:

Air travellers urged to sit tight and be patient to help save fuel

Public servants asked not to fly ahead of decision on tighter rationing at Auckland airport

A serious situation, but replacing the broken section of the pipeline cannot be rushed for safety reasons.

Piloting an empty aircraft from AKL to WLG and back again to load fuel in WLG has a tinge of desperation about it.

At least one NZ return flight between AKL and MEL, BNE and ADL are cancelled on 20 September:
