I am a newbie here, so I do hope I am asking this question in the correct area.

For my next trip to LA I have opted to book Air Pacific to Nadi over night, Nadi to LAX. I thought that this might be a more relaxed option as it is only 10 hours to LAX from Nadi.

I have asked Air Pacific about their upper deck seats which I can't book, in fact many of the seats I had tried to book were not available. I was told to ask at the airport when I disembark the flight from Australia to Nadi and they should be able to organise this for me.

Does anyone have any idea if this is correct, or does anyone have any experience with the Air Pacific Seating?

A friend recently arrived back in Oz on the return of your route, said it took Air Pacific crew over an hour to get the door open so they could get off. Was announced there was a "technical issue". Better make that 11 hours.

The Upper Deck is economy I believe, didn’t get a chance to look as being in the nose was much nicer.

I would think if you had status you’d be able to allocate these seats, do you? Have you booked with Air Pacific or Qantas?

You should be able to check the seat map with checkmytrip. With QF codeshares you could request via QF website. FJ doesn't offer that to my knowledge.

Once you know what's available should be easier to ask. Worst case email them :)

On my return with them we apparently had somebody really ill in Y that needed officials to look at check before anyone deplaned. Then the AC didn't align with the gate....

So completely oblivious in J of course. Apparently everyone was aware down back however. We all had a good laugh after pax in Y tried to jump out there seats for the 10th time and the ever so nice crew had to get tough. "I will repeat once again. In case you did not understand me, this time I will say it in English..."

ISTR also that upperdeck will often be "closed" unless loadings require.

Funny thing, we had this happen as well. Ended up being a problem with the gate.. But anyways.

Thank you all for your replies.

Wouldn't be fun waiting an extra hour once landed before you could disembark, especially for those who smoke.

I am afraid I don't have status, but according to the person I spoke to at Air Pacific he did seem to think I could ask to be seated there as it is just an economy section. I shall ask and let you know if it works out.
