Flying MEL-KUL in October on AirAsiaX (D7 219). All the seat maps suggest that the A330 has a 3-3-3 configuration in Y, but the seat map we selected seats on the airline website had 2-4-2. Anyone have any intel on this? Are they flying a new A330 neo version now?

The 330neo retains 3-3-3

Though they leased an ex China Eastern 330-300 which has the 2-4-2 also with slightly longer legroom of about extra 1 inch or so if I recall but that was a few years ago.

If correct you got a good deal!

It's a leased plane (unsure which one, but I read previously it was Philippine Airlines A330. Those flying in AirAsiaX Flatbed get a proper lie-flat Business Class seat!

I suspect the seat map on which we can choose seats is not correct. It goes all the way back to Row 67! A bit annoying, having paid for seats at time of booking. Hopefully when check-in opens, the map is correct and Rows 44 and beyond are still available for those few rows of 2-3-2.

AirAsia are flying two ex-Philippine Airlines (PAL) A330's, pretty much exactly as PAL last used them, including lie flat suites in "Premium Flatbed"!

Currently they are used between KUL and MEL, ICN (Seoul), SYD with some recent appearances to OOL and KIX (Osaka). You can search 9M-XBF and 9M-XBG on Flightradar24 to see where they are now.

I just flew the "premium flatbed" on these planes. I'm going to post a trip report/review in the next few days.

Just as a follow-up, the seat map updated at OLCI opening a few days ago to show the expected 3-3-3-3 layout in Y. We grabbed one of the "honeymoon" seats when it narrows to 2-3-2 towards the rear - thankfully didn't have to pay a seat selection fee again.
