Airflines PNG Dash 8 crashes in PNG

ABC reports an Airlines PNG Dash 8 carrying 32 pax has crashed near Madang, PNG. Report suggests some survivors but unknown how many.

Fire in planes is never a good precursor to a happy ending, throw in wicked weather and the general PNG conditions to the mix to rely stack the odds. RIP to those poor souls. It was lucky if I can use the phrase for the survivors to have the happy coincidence of four Blackhawks on station to assist in the evacuation, PNG is not well equipped at all times to deal with events like this that occur on an unfortunately regular basis.

Dash8 rego was P2-MCJ. All Dash8s in APNG fleet now grounded.

1988- That is not that much older than some of the 747/767 fleet flying around at the moment.

We had two pax scheduled on that service. It's been a very long day.

Still not 100% sure if both boarded and the manifest has not been released. Certainly will be very reluctant to use CG moving forward.

The crew who survived have been named. It says the flight attendant & one other passenger were the other two survivors of the crash.
