Airlines eye new slots at Haneda (Tokyo)

It is a problem with HND security. We have flown out of there a few times now on JL.There is a large sign up with the cards that are allowed to use fast track. In the pictures there is a BA gold card and a QF plat card.Despite putting our cards up against the pictures still not allowed in.We were told mrsdrron could use it if flying QF and I could use it if flying BA but neither of us if flying JAL.I went back to the JAL desks and they couldn't help.

I did however email management of HND and JAL.The reply from HND management was sorry but that is the way it is.From JAL an acknowledgement that they knew of the problem and have been trying to get HND management to change the rules on fast track security.

PS.I do prefer the JAL Flounge at HND over NRT.

Do they have QF listed now? When I was there QF was not even on the list which is also a bit restrictive in the sense that no business class pax allowed (unless have status) and airline status and operating airline must be the same (which is in tiny writing at the bottom of the sign). If QF is allowed now then that's good but if not, they should at least talk to HND about the possibility of using it if they are to move the MEL flight to HND.

Even JL business class pax can't use the fast track at NRT South entrance (the exclusive entrance for JL flights and JL status holders on certain codeshares) but at least they can go and use the North entrance along with other OW status holders and don't need the status and operating airline to be the same. It might not mean anything normally but I've had days when I had to wait 20 minutes even in the fast track lane when there were issues so I can't imagine how long the normal lane took. One time, the normal line had so many people it looked like they were waiting for a ride at Disneyland and they had extra ropes and airport staff to direct people where to line up.

I've never been OWE so please let me know next time you're in HND or NRT lol

From memory QF wasn't on the airline list but there was an image of a QFF WP card.
Yes we were flying JAL J.Was a fair time in the ordinary line. Will be flying out of HND again in May and hopefully JL F in October.Wonder if we will get fast track then.

If you fly in F you will, otherwise it's the ordinary line unfortunately.

'Virgin Australia stated that it plans to operate a daily service between Brisbane
and Haneda, using an Airbus 330-200 aircraft configured with 20 seats in business class
and 255 seats in economy class (including eight economy X class).'

Excited for this

Question is: where will VA free A330 capacity from to allocate to this route? New airframes seems unlikely in their current financial situation.

Possibly one of the HKG routes?
I don’t know the intricacies of the VA ownership but with the HNA group having spare aircraft sitting around unused is there scope to lease one or two?

True, I hadn’t considered the HNA connection, that may be a “source” for aircraft.

I think it’s more likely they’ll pull one from East Coast-PER.

They are inviting submissions to comment on the draft determinations. Closing date Thursday.

What are VA currently using their A330s for? 2x AU-HKG and 4x Domestic transcon?

They'll come from domestic. Sad reality imo

Upside for BNE is that we may well see more regular A330s on PER-BNE to cycle through airframes

1 was being used occasionally to NAN but not sure if that still happens or not?

Saturdays ex SYD and MEL, Sundays ex BNE. Using the airframes when it's quietest on transcon. Not all the time though.

I can see a world where MEL-HKG disappears in favour of BNE-HND

The decision makes sense - having another entrant on this route will be quite exciting, and I do think a partnership with ANA will be a big benefit to Virgin as well (since both the JP carriers are quite good).

I'm also personally hoping JAL will move the SYD-NRT flights to SYD-HND and restart BNE-NRT (Or even a PER-NRT).

Doesn’t make sense with the new VS partnership

If HKG protests continue to go on I wouldn't be surprised if they pull one of the route out. Wouldn't be surprised if they pull out SYD-HKG as there are already so many flights available from CX and QF (one of them on A380) on this route.
