AirNZ earning as VA WP

just trying to figure out eligibility of VA WP status on Air NZ flights. Flying Business from Sydney to LAX via Auckland on a straight Air NZ booking. I know VA have an alliance but not sure if it only covers trans Tasman codeshares. Can anyone clarify whether my VA status is worth anything on ANZ and if I earn points it SCs?

As bitter as the relationship is between the VA and NZ now, you'll still get the WP benefits and earn, including the sectors outside trasman. You are entitled to lounge (not that you need it traveling J) but will also earn points and SC unless... (quoted from Virgin Australia site)

Velocity Points and Status Credits cannot be earned on:

• - Air New Zealand flights to or from the Pacific Islands and Denpasar, Indonesia. View Pacific Island destinations ineligible for Points earn.
• - Any domestic New Zealand services booked in a fare class of S, K or P which are operated by Air New Zealand or Air New Zealand link carriers.
• - Reward Seat Bookings
• - Fare classes other than as specified above
• - Codeshare flights (Any flight with an NZ flight number that is operated by an airline other than Air New Zealand, Air New Zealand Link carriers, including Air Nelson, Eagle Airways and Mount Cook Airlines, and Virgin Australia).
• - Any Air New Zealand flight where Airpoints Dollars have been used as a form of payment irrespective of the fare class flown

Yes, you still earn as blueturkey outlined. In any business booking class it it 2 points per mile (remember to calculate all the legs separately). Then for a return journey you should earn 440 status credits (60 per one way SYD-AKL flight + 160 for one way AKL-LAX leg).
