AIRTRAIN Brisbane Go Card 😡

The contactless payment is available on trains and trams only for now. Buses and ferries will come online later.

Yes but I was referring to the context of this thread, you don't need a go card to get the air train discount, which makes it a lot more accessible for tourists.

There actually was Gold go cards, they gave them away during Covid in a promo and they came loaded with 12 months free travel (including airtrain).

My last visit they were in the middle of changing it to accept all major CC...but I also catch the ferries a bit and these didnt do CC last time so I kept the Go Card.
And does it do a daily/weekly cap if you use multiple times/modes on the CC's?

Exactly the same as using a Go card

There is a minor difference - if you do a return journey within the allocated transfer time, on a go card you are only charged for one way (eg Cavil Ave - Broadbeach South - Cavil Ave). If you use a credit card, you will be charged for both directions (2x one way journeys). The only way to avoid this is to get off at a different stop to your origin (eg Cavil Ave - Broadbeach South - Cavil Ave gets charged 2x, Cavil Ave - Broadbeach South - Cypress Ave only gets charged 1x).

This is by design.

Apologies - I was getting my states mixed up.

Maroon Seniors Go Card.

If using the city stations there are no concessions. If travelling beyond, it's actually cheaper in off peak to tap out at Central (or other city station), and then tap on again. This is obviously a lot easier at a station without barriers (Bowen Hills?). Fares from the airport are $21.90 + the relevant peak translink fare (inc. concessions). But if you connect to another service even within the same zone, it's not included, so you pay again.

Eg Brisbane Airport - Helensvale - Cavil Ave, you will pay $21.90 + Z1-5 peak, + Z5 peak or off peak.

Also confusingly South Brisbane is counted as a city station but not Southbank.

Yes I thought there was some benefit to the Go Card, I just tap it and dont care about the amount, recharge it when its low. I only use it on occasional visits but if you do it daily it pays to research each leg I guess.

Kinda related...
Does anyone actually pay for the Gold Coast Tram, or in SYD and MEL? I seem to be the only idiot Tapping on and off when I ride...
I know MEL CBD has a free area but do locals get a monthly pass or something and just show the inspector if asked or is everyone just hoping they are not asked for tickets?

I've seen lots of revenue protection officers on the G (and buses), and I wouldn't think of travelling without a ticket.

However if you are an aggro drug addict, you will probably get away with it (I've seen this in action).

And BTW, I'm an Interstate pensioner and my Go Card is maroon coloured (for others who might think otherwise).

I live on the GC and use it several times a week. I would say ticket inspectors are on at least 1:4 journeys. Many, many times more than on QR trains.

You’re an absolute idiot if you try to ride without a ticket. You’ll only get a warning the first time but after that you’ll get a hefty fine. It’s really not worth it given the low cost and fact you can use your credit card to tap on.

Interstate pensioners are supposed to use green go cards, as the maroon cards are only for QLD residents (and double as a QLD seniors card).

Fares are the exactly the same for both so it doesn’t make a difference for public transport.

I'm a seniors card holder (not pensioner) and reciprocally, they issued me with a maroon card.

Tell.me about it, for a couple of years in the mid 00's I worked one week a month in Brisbane. Had an arrangement with my BIL to stay at his place (Riviera Apartments). Back then I could get an 8 trip ticket for $80. I used Southbank always planning to play the "dumb mexican" - never needed to
