AKL Dinner Sat March 9 2019

Any indication as yet as to what will be the “party” flight from Sydney to Auckland on Friday 8 March? I will still be QFF Platinum then so should be able to guest one into the First Lounge if necessary. I will be flying up from Melbourne on Friday morning and back from Auckland to Melbourne some time on Monday.

I am waiting for the next (suitable) "QF New Zealand on Sale" and then usually work around the available flights. The current double points offer does not do it for me.

If I fly on the Friday it'll be on the 1855 A330 service - but way too early for me to book especially as the pricing isn't that inspiring right now :)

(there are four J award seats on that flight right now though)

I am upgrading to platinum(-), so what is platinum(-). On the way to the airport last night with MrsM discussion went like this:

Me. Do you want to go to dinner in NZ.
MrsM. Ok when?
Me. Next March on the long weekend.
MrsM. Sounds good while we are there can we go Hobbit Land (that hobbit village place), will we go on EK?
Me. No we are going for the day/ overnight and EK don't fly to AKL any more.
MrsM. when did that stop?
Me. This year, we can still go in QF J on the wide bodies, flying out of SYD or MEL.
MrsM. What are they like?
Me. The same type of plane that you have been on to SIN, HKG, NRT, etc.
MrsM. They are nice. Can we still go to Hobbit Land?
Me. No time, we are there for a day/over night.
MrsM. May give it a miss, you go.

So the platinum(-) count me in, at some point in the future I will have to explain why I am off to NZ without SWMBO and MissM.

It is only 2 hours from Auckland to Matamata (Hobbit land)

If you must fly TRG would be a much better bet. Closer to Hobbiton, much less chance of flight disruptions, and more flights.
Cheers, I was more referring to looking down out of the aircraft ... ;)

Posting mainly so I can keep track of this thread. Even though I am frequently in Auckland I can’t plan anything anywhere near this far out. March not normally a time to travel to NZ but should have different job or role by. Ext year so hopefully I can change it up.
