Alan Joyce to leave Qantas immediately

Shirley multiple people (highly paid QF exec's with their bonuses) must've know about this... Could this process, ticketing to this scale happen without nobody knowing??

Just sayin.

Well, we know how bad the Qantas IT is ...

But put (very!) simply, you'd think that there is one area that says "This is a flight - plane, seats, config ... go sell seats" and another that sees money coming in and says "OK, that's for THAT flight over there, I'll record that because we want to be able to calculate all sorts of revenue and return numbers against partic planes, ages etc." Sorta like having a single accounting code for every flight, where the revenue and costs can then be sliced and diced a hundred ways.

So when the area that has the flight open, closes it, cos its cancelled (or full) ... the selling area then goes to shove the money into it and shouldn't be able to, because its closed - but it can because of? - thousands of cough-ups over months and the monthly reconciliations don't pick it up? The accountants or accounting software says "Hmmmm ... all that money without anything on the cost or provisions side."

So, then either "GOODY!" or "That's odd, should look into that"

I read that VH has not spoken to AJ since he left....speaks volumes about the suddenness of his departure, and to me, suggests he was asked to leave early.. Has there been any physical sighting of AJ since he left? Has he fled the country and the storm?!

Yes he left the country boarding EK to fly back to Ireland. Interestingly choosing to avoid flying QF.

I guess he would know how bad its got.....

Can you name a few good (books that tell the truth) books about QF please?
I haven't read any or been recommended any such books (those that tell the truth or otherwise), but a bit of searching reveals two titles, which are a bit ancient but anyway:

I have no idea how accurate these two books are. Both authors are journalists. Someone here surely must have read at least one of them.

The only book connected to Qantas that I've read is QF32 by RdC.

"Former Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce has returned to Australia five months after leaving the country following his abrupt exit from the national carrier.

Mr Joyce arrived at Sydney Airport on Monday evening, having spent most of his time overseas with his family in Dublin, where he was born. His return comes as his successor at Qantas, Vanessa Hudson, prepares to hand down her first set of results."

Did he fly with QF or a quality airline? 😝

No point talking to him for advice, as he only knows how to destroy an airline, and VH is supposed to rebuild it. Of course we all know that she's totally complicit in AJ's work of destruction, so she'll have no idea of what's needed to fix things. I wonder if she's got a cardboard box sitting in her office for whenever the axe eventually falls.

Fascinating that the review found that there was a “top down” culture at Qantas that meant other leaders felt they couldn’t “speak up” to challenge Joyce over controversial decisions.

And yet, they've promoted one of those leaders who couldn't speak up to Joyce to be the new CEO. Pretty damning assessment of Hudson's leadership capabilities, I would've thought.

Reduced. Not removed entirely.
he'll have to struggle along with a mere $14 million.

he left a legacy of illegal worker sackings, massive fines and the reputation of the airline shattered Never forget when he grounded the fleet without notice leaving every one of Qantas' customers across the world stranded.

penalties to Qantas for the illegal sackings yet to come.
