Alan Joyce to leave Qantas immediately

Wonder if Tom Saar was supplied by McKinsey & Company (Senior Partner) or if he was freelancing? McKinsey not mentioned in the Qantas report, so I assume the latter, although McKinsey was brought in last January to look at on-time performance. After bringing in Boston Consulting to help repair relations with customers.

I look forward to when the new Chairman takes over.

I went and read the Tom Saar review

A failure to deliver to customers was really the root cause. Taking them for granted that they would keep being loyal, will not speak up and keep paying the premium prices charged for the flying experience

It hallmarks of the WRONG priorities - QF thought by flying planes whenever they bothered was sufficient for the whooping personalised performance bonuses for Executives

So they lost the plot

Their primary purpose is to

Carry PAYING Passengers safely from A to B and being responsive to all channels of communication including call centres

Their secondary purpose
To ensure professionalised staff to do so

Their tertiary purpose
To actually fly the damn plane from A to B

Interesting — some reasonable recommendations amongst the word salad. I think all the executive team and board sgould certainly take up the customer inferface challenge… and I dont mean those photo opportunities with the hand selected media in tow when AJ would hand an Olympian a boarding pass and John Travolta flies the plane.
I mean baggage handling, catering, shadowing the check in crew (especialky when IT goes down) - bit like undercover boss. As I find VA increasingly a LCC service with HCC price I would like to test a better QANTAS offering domestically. 🤞🏻🤷‍♀️

Flying planes or carrying passengers ?

Simple

Of service does not mean servitude. Something south-east Asian Airlines do brilliantly

Here in Oz we think it means “being a poorly paid servant”. Only perpetuated by the 2008 decision by Qantas to remove good wages from future flight attendants. And then offshore FAs in JQ to Indonesia or Thailand where wage rates are like A$2.16 per hour. This reinforcing our beliefs about servitude

So we misunderstand the truth and are unwilling to change our minds

Re Qantas board / governance, one thing that intrigues me is that Todd Sampson has been on the board since around 2015, and is considered a guru in marketing enough to be on a TV show that casts judgement on such things. Where was his voice influencing the board and executive when Qantas' brand was being trashed ?

Take the money and run maybe his new motto?

It seems he has been out of marketing for a while, and spends more time on TV shows, if probably refer to him as a TV Presenter. I reckon he likes seeing himself on the box.

Based on his language and tone on Gruen, he seems to have a very high opinion of himself and a need to elevate his supposed marketing prowess by constantly seeking to diminish and question the credibility of Russell Howcroft. Perhaps these are all Qantas Board traits.
