Anyone here who has been following their sales have a feel for when the next one might be due?

just booked this morning for Mar 2015 travel, all in business class:
CX SYD-HKG
CX HKG-CDG
72,500 points, approx USD158 taxes and fees

Certainly learnt a lot from discussions on this forum, particularly that the booking is for two awards, one for SYD-HKG, another separate one for HKG-CDG. This is how the award chart for Mileage Plan is designed.

As specified in the website, had to ring Alaska to book this one. Took about 30 minutes, needed a bit of time to calculate the taxes and fees.

If I can see LAX - SYD on CX via QFF would that be a good indication that I could ring alaskan and do a LAX - HKG and HKG - SYD booking?

Yes true but less than others I have found.

The issue with JL is that is doesn't show availability that USDM/AA/etc can see. So you may miss out on the dates you really want if you were to rely on JL. And the only way to test that is by calling.

Probably not if its on JL will be more like it.

it's a reasonable starting point. The JL tool has also shown to be inaccurate.

So as been said many times before - JL will underestimate the availability, whereas most other tools will overestimate.

When push comes to shove, it does mean that JL is the only tool which shows real available seats (it may not show all of them, but the ones it shows are genuine). I haven't come across an incident yet when a seat shown on JL is not available when calling; I imagine someone has a story.

This is why it is advisable to check both JL and other tools; if the availability shows on a non-JL tool but not JL, then prepare an alternative in case the phantom availability turns out to be just that.

A lot of problems with Phantom availability.
tried to do cx hkg - cdg in late october in F. BA had 2 x F. Called Alaska and could not see any availability at all. Was advised to see advised to see JL and indeed, nothing on JL.

If you do find it on JL you should get it on AS, they say JL under rates.

I and many others found the opposite, is all a lottery.

Most have been there, I was just meaning its not a definite on JL either.

In fact, one time the CSA told me an available flight wasn't there and I asked him to check again and he found it. Seemed to be if its in the early hours of the morning, they didn't always see it right away.
