Wow !

a) Two F seats

b) Everything we knows is simply not comprehensive enough

c) You were SO flexible with time to be able to accept something that was not expected

? CX

I needed to get to LAX or SFO (either would have done). Into SFO was ok, but coming out was a problem... SFO showed phantom on BA. YVR/LAX showed nothing on JL/BA but the agent said 'I can get you out from LAX if that's ok?'. This was booking the entire itinerary 7 days before departure.

They do say booking close to departure on CX is the way to go but most cant do that.

How does JL under report then?

BA/QF/JL may show no availability, but there might in fact be some seats available. So if relying on JL only (which is more accurate than QF/BA), you could miss out on a seat if JL has under-reported.

But how would you know if it exists?

by chance.

For example the call centre can't see the flight that should have availability, but then say 'oh, I have two F on the 0945am' (which didn't show on either JL/QF/BA).

I dunno whether a paid subscription service picks up the under-reported seats.

Anyone got any info on when next to expect a promo? :)

They normally have 4 per year with 35% or 40% more gratis, have been...

  • November/December 2014: 35% bonus
  • September/October 2014: 40% bonus
  • May 2014: 35% bonus

Thanks Limewood. I'd love to stock up for a few HKG runs that I would like to make :) Hopefully there will be a special this month.

Hedge, I had far more luck booking award seats via AS than AA miles, even had 2 x J x 2 CNS HKG return trips to date, also found their operators experienced didn't have to HUACA.

That's what I have read. I used USDM do a pretty long itinerary before and it wasn't too bad. Although I did spend a lot of time researching it before I rang up. PER-HKG should be relatively simple for the agents :)

Got an offer today for 35% bonus over 40000 miles purchased.. Wish the $ wasn't so depressed.

Yes bad AUD/USD of late.

Been waiting for another AS miles offer, its for one and all on AS site.

Take SYD/HKG in J on CX return 60K miles still under $2K once 7% US tax added and 0.70 bank exchange rate.

How about SYD/SFO/SYD on QF its 110K AS miles, USD$2200 (approx) + US7% tax $154 toto $2354 at banks AUD$0.70 to USD1.00 is $3360.

I've used AS miles few times, always found their operators very efficient, not once have I had to HUCA (hang up call again).

Is there a way to get around the US address billing address requirement?

I just looked at buying some miles and when i went through the payment section there was a drop down menu where you could select Australia and then individual states.
Some earlier posts from last year say the restriction has been lifted and people have purchased with Aust Credit Card. Not sure on this round though.

The OZ billing address is long gome as far as I know and leave out the zip/post code.

as far as i know, this restriction has been lifted. unless they brought it back again?
