Just came across this promo on AS website. Might be of interest to some though I dont see any J on LAX-NAN at all.

LAX-NAN and vv is on their A50 with full flats in business, availability has been patchy at best - the odd seat here and there. Long periods with no availability. The SFO flight is much better availability wise, but with slightly angled beds.

Hi All - i have typically used Aadvantage points to secure business flights within australia.

With AA lifting the base rate of points - i was considering utilising the same strategy with Alaska.

Is it pretty straight forward with them?

Typical routes are Per><Syd and Per ><Mel

pretty much, yeah. What you see you can book, and straightforward (at least for my international redemptions on QF metal via AS, and no reason to suspect domestic is any different).

The only ‘problem’ is with QF schedule changes and cancellations, you get auto protected, and your new itinerary is kind of out of AS’s hands.

Today's Gazette email reminded me about AS's good bonus offers. I created an account with them over a year and ticked all the boxes to receive emails but realised today that I've never actually received any. (My email address is correct in the system so that's not the issue.) Any ideas how to resolve this? I'd probably like to buy some of their points next year to top me up so I want to get the emails as I believe the bonus points are targeted offers.

So, looking to redeem solely for QF domestic J flights, if I bought during a 40% bonus period (140k points) I'd spend roughly AUD$4000 that I could use on 7 one-way flights at an average cost of $571 to me? Might be good for longer flights, but not for shorter flights. As a Points Club member I'd also earn SC on these flights, probably earning a minimum of 168SC (medium flights and above – 751 to 1,500 miles) but as much as 224SC. Decisions.

While the SCs are currently generated on partner issued QF awards, I don’t think there’s any guarantee for those going forward on my reading of the terms and conditions.

Always interested to see the perceptions that a comparison of value is Qantas bashing, when after all this is one of the basic reasons we all use this site, particularly in the context being discussed of whether this is value for Aussie flights.

Not bashing… it’s all reported and confirmed. The post you are replying to is a week old. The news coverage of those issues may have died down, but at the time… I personally would not have been buying AS miles for the ‘pleasure’ of flying QFd.

I think QF should get a lot of bad press for how they've been treating their customers lately, but lately there has been a trend on this site to derail any thread about Qantas, any question about Qantas, with posts that basically, say, "you should fly Virgin or Rex instead". It's completely off topic and not answering the OP every time that happens.

It makes this site look like it has a bunch of posters who can't see fit to just answer a question without slagging off QF on the side. It's getting old.

Not at all… if someone is coming to the site looking for information about an airline, or thinking of buying miles in an airline program then it’s reasonable that they both sides of the coin.

It’s not just qantas… Avianca and lifemiles get a bad rap, Malaysia Airlines gets a bad rap. So does Garuda. The US carriers get their lack of meals called out, and so do the european carriers for their ‘euro business’. Virgin and Jetstar got equally bad reviews when they were delivering a poor product.

Qantas has 10+ million FF members, a large share of the domestic market and a good proportion of the international. They seem to get an appropriate share of criticism.

I got a Qantas award through a partner program… between the cancelled flights, unworkable reroutes and hours on the phone to Qantas I would think twice. Especially last week when they were at the height of the catering debacle and calling out passengers for not being ‘match fit’ or whatever.

The AS award chart does not have Au to NZ. AS award chart is limited on routes

I don’t know if this has been noted elsewhere but looks like a new earn and redeem route from Alaska airlines partnering with Air Tahiti Nui now.

I noticed this route on the AA site as there seem to be some reasonable availability mainly in PE but some J to LA. Had a quick google to check actual prices direct with the airline and pleasantly surprised PE is going for less than 1600NZD one way with a transit time of 3hrs. Far cheaper than Air NZ in economy currently.

Anyway they’re flying to Seattle then Alaska air down to Ontario, CA as well as the nonstop LAX route. Earning miles has started with redemptions starting soon? Alaska Air

It’s in “I” class so unsure which Star Alliance member to align this booking too. AIR NZ do not give anything for “I” class in business neither do Singapore. Any thoughts on how to make this 4 leg flight count towards status?

If you booked using Alaska miles, you won't be able to earn any points or status credits as these are award bookings.

An exception is for Qantas-operated flights if you're in Points Club and credit to QFF - you can earn status credits in this case.

Having some issues with QF multicity on Alaska website.

I was planning to book MEL-ADL on day 1 with ADL-ASP on day 2 with a stopover of less than 24 hours. I can see availability on both sectors, but when I use the multi city option, it vanishes.
If I put MEL-ASP on its own, it routes me via SYD. Is it not possible to stop at ADL? Call center also seems to have the same issue.

I'm just wondering has anyone tried to book that AKL-SIN-FRK-JFK on SQ on the AS site with a stopover in FRK? It's 145k AS miles. Not sure if this is good value or not? I tried to use the AS multi city function to book with a stopover in FRK. But it doesn't come up with anything when using the multi city function even though the flights are showing as available when you search them separately. Is this possible to book the FRK stopover? It seems too hard for their computer system. I guess I have to ring the call centre.
