All AU Diners Club personal cards will be cancelled in January 2024

I got refunded on something so I have a $450 credit on my account now

Any online ways to get it sent to a bank account or am I going to have to call up and try and find a dept that is still active ?

Sad to have my 30-years of DC membership wound down. It was the start of Dining and Travel cards... sad to see its demise in Oz (but admittedly, it became increasingly difficult to find merchant acceptance). Off to AMEX (again!)

They sent me a cheque refund (from NAB) easily deposited back into my NAB cheque account using their app. Seems that's their preferred credit refund method.

Yeah, they sent my wife and I a couple of cheques for measly amounts and we tossed them in the bin. Would cost more to go to the bank and deposit them than they were worth.

Thanks NAB for everything, including killing off DC.

Just saw this
Diners Club is winding down its operations in Australia. As a result, from
Monday 5/08 Woolworths Supermarket and Metro stores will no longer
accept Diners Club cards.

I think this article solves for me the mystery of why NAB would buy the diners brand and shut it down without offering a pathway for retail/business customers:

It turns out that they scored a massive whole of govt contract previously with Diners out of the purchase, shifted them to their commodity visa card offering and let the rest die. So perhaps NAB aren't as crazy as they seemed.

Makes sense - still shame we weren't offered a pathway to a NAB product even if it was a VISA. They already had a Shadow limit exposure to us on the Diners. Unless of course, the overlap with Citi and NAB was so big they decided not to do that and to trim their credit exposure. For instance, I had NAB and Citi cards at the time of the takeover. I'm sure I wasn't alone in NAB inheriting that multiple exposure to customers like me.

And whete is the ACCC?! Toothless.... :(

Well there you go

Buying up the Intellectual Property Rights (client list) and scooping up the lucrative guaranteed profits.

Never did like NAB. They're the least nice of the big 4. Not that any of them are actually "nice".

Sad to see the end of what should have been a great premium payment service.

Remember getting my first corporate DC as a newly graduated employee in the 90's and because of wide acceptance receiving thousands of Ansett Australia Global Rewards points (Ansett's auditing of points wasn't that great and the points would some times credit twice - just like you would often get twice the points on a hotel stay if you faxed the hotel bill to the Global Rewards missing points fax number!)

Wonder how many legacy contracts like that were still tired to Diners.

It’s interesting to discover the real reasons for takeovers. Often it’s to do with lucrative patents or like this case an enduring client lists or buying up the competition to close them Down to consolidate the profits from the industry or founders trying to cash out …

There are still lounges overseas that offer free entry to Diners Club cardholders. If we show an AU Diners will they be able to tell that the card is inactive or would it still work if it hasn't passed expiry date?

I would be shocked if it worked!
