All International Arrivals into Australia to self isolate for 14 days

Do we have a definition of "self isolation yet"?

In Singapore, people are issued with a "Stay at Home Notice" whereby they can't leave the front door of their property (and government works with People' Association to ensure access to essentials), but that is just for people coming from specific high risk countries.

So we've basically banned international travel into Australia, and yet we still allow travel from Australia. Surely if it's that bad we should just stop all international travel.

I feel so sorry for all those tourists flying into Australia in the next few days. Expensive holidays ruined.
We can't stop citizens from other countries flying home.

I came back from BKK/SIN on Tuesday morning and did WFH the remainder of last week and will next week until my sabbatical ends 23rd. It was not specific company policy, but was asked to by the my sections manager.

I work in IT and have no issues VPN'ing in, so fortunate in that respect

It’s a good thing for us all but with considerable short term economic pain.

Good leadership.

I want to see how Qantas and Virgin are going to be supported though.

Why do people (media, pollies etc.) keep saying the economic pain will be short? This has already sent some low margin businesses to the wall and many more will follow.

People will be ruined from this.

People getting off their flights from DFW flight tomorrow morning are going to be in for a bit of a surprise. Those in LAX/SFO/YVR originating flights (and EK 404 SIN-MEL arriving at 00:20), checked in, ready to go, may face some hard decisions about whether to FTB or not.

Does the 14 day self-isolation period end on the 23rd or 24th in your case? I'm interested to know when the clock starts running - will I be allowed to fly domestically on the 23rd if I were you?

The airlines can by cancelling flights (as AA has just done).
If I were an Aussie overseas or a tourist in Aus, I'd be wanting to fly in the next week.

AA announcement a few hours ago (may change further with Aus /NZ restrictions)

Initial travel alert already published on the Virgin website:
We are aware of new travel restrictions announced by the Australian Government and are assessing our response. We understand these restrictions may affect our guests' travel plans and are working on how we can best support them.

NSW Government has indicated it will activate powers under the NSW Public Health Act to enforce these requirements. Penalties for individuals are fines of up to $22,000 and/or up to 6 months imprisonment.

How will airlines be able to crew their flights heading back if they're in isolation??

Crew are excempt which does make the whole thing a bit of a joke... No special medical precautions are being taken for crew so why excempt them?

Thinking more and more this is the case. I just want DFAT to put out a do not travel warning so it's all clean with regards to insurance.

Where are you going?

I departed SIN on the 9th, so the 23rd inclusive.

I think it’s an acceptance the thing is here already and that the measures aren’t going to stop it, and that the announced measures are aiming to flatten the curve (but can’t eliminate the curve) so medical resources can cope.
