All international travelers will be quarantined in hotels or designated facilities

Oh that is useful to know as I was on the Singapore Airlines site and they were selling seats for the Adelaide flight in September but wasn't certain if they were running as they are also selling for Darwin flight and I don't think that is running. There seems to be plenty of points redemption options at this time as well.

They haven’t yet published their schedules for September, but it is probably wise to assume they will extend their August schedule of one daily into ADL on the same day of the week. I’d therefore look at booking specifically on that day of the week rather than any other.

Schedule available here:

I figured Adelaide might be a safer option than Sydney or Melbourne as they both seem to have troubling situations developing with quarantine. I figure that Adelaide has limited flights so unlikely to cancel due to overload. Other thing of course coming from US would need to coordinate it with flights out of LAX as believe Singapore allows transit but don't fancy transiting for 24+ hours if we are not allowed to go to a hotel.

Unfortunately some politicians are using it to play to their low brow base to get re-elected so you will still be hearing a lot of ‘travellers who have had every opportunity to come back’ verbiage from our ‘leaders’....

And I think that's absolutely right in *almost* all cases?

We have seen plenty of examples where people choose not to come home - and for very good reasons... they have job, or partner overseas, or are at the end of a gap year working overseas, etc. Or it may be inconvenient for them to come home just now. But most of the cases people have outlined here are really a choice... it might be a tough choice, but a choice nonetheless.

There may be some exceptions for a small number of countries where internal travel is impossible to reach a major gateway, but I'd like to see a current list for that. QR is flying daily from Europe. United is flying domestic USA and then TPAC. According to flightaware these flights are flying, and consistently flying.

And some raising concerns re the QLD quarantine situation. It appears you can leave without being tested even if you want to get tested.

Which is not what QLD authorities were saying last month.

Queensland has joined New South Wales in moving to implement mandatory testing of people in quarantine for COVID-19.

Queensland Health said people would be tested when they go into quarantine and again on day 11.

The move follows a crackdown in the state on people who are breaching quarantine while being isolated inside their homes.

Not possible, QLD is perfect 😂

That's really quite unacceptable.

Back on-topic - with the incoming quarantine rules in force for all people who have been overseas, whats going to happen when all these Australians who are still stranded overseas ( due to the lack of Quarantine capacity within Australia) have their visa's expire, remember some of these are working visas contingent on being employed in the host nation?

Eventually I can see at least a few countries might resort to forced repatriation, or possibly imprisonment of the people overstaying their visa's? That might be the suitable motivator for someone to pull their finger out and find a better/longer term solution?

Queensland will shortly announce a new repatriation program for international returnees, following the ‘AFL-QLD Gov model’ rolled out!

If you have a demonstrable way to help the QLD premier win her election you will recieve 5 star ‘loose’ quarantine arrangements, access to the swimming pool and bar as well :).

Please write directly to Anna for personal approval and she will ensure her CHO Dr Young prioritises your application (Ahead of all other true hardship applications) and tick boxes your ‘COVIDSafe’ plan in 20 seconds.

Too late, I feel. The QLD election result is a certainty. No help from AFFers required, but it was the thought that counted. 😀

A person stranded in Vietnam has had four paid in advance flights cancelled, beginning with the initial Jetstar fiasco. I think we have 30K vacant university dorms / rooms vacant, that could absorb solo travellers if they can cope - but hey, someone has decided to exclude 'by consent' alternatives. In addition profiling has not been used to place the more honest ones, such as over 55 and non-smokers, or those how can place a 20K bond in advance.

Only a country like Australia could create a quarantine bottleneck during a pandemic where the international borders are closed thus ABF and Immigration staff have nothing to do, aircraft are still flying but mostly empty of passengers which makes airlines unsustainable and endangers the freight and makes trade more difficult, testing of people in quarantine has been "hit and miss", have juvenille "turf wars" about which department and government is responsible for what and there are thousands of empty hotel rooms, and lots of unemployed hospitality staff, and thats before you even consider the other possible alternatives of home isolation, more directed testing and advanced spatial tracking/location technology that have all been conveniently ignored for an 18th century quarantine solution rolled out in the 21st century.

I think I heard that SA was going to be increasing their quota, as they should. Still not enough. But with the quarantine issue in Victoria, well, there really wasnt much choice but to shut down.

There seems to be angst with the bracelet but if it meant people could come home and not be stuck in a hotel then I would be up for it.

Bracelet = my home
No bracelet = Ibis Budget in Ipswich

Hmmmm decisions  🤣

I don't really get the angst with the bracelet - if it let me stay at home rather than stuck in a hotel room, I'd do it.

Reasonable people who don’t inhabit conspiracy sites, have no intention to disobey the regulations, and are socially responsible will not have a problem.

Unfortunately..........
