Hi all,

I just wanted to know if I am going insane. I want to earn 540 sc's by the first of February to attain WP. The main reasons I am after WP is that I mainly do international long haul travel, so the 2x points and F lounge access would be nice, especially comparing it to the int J lounge in SYD. (I miss the F lounge). Also it seems like it makes things much easier when traveling on other airlines in OW.

If you all think I am not insane, I was wondering what the most cost effective way of achieving this, I have 90K of points lying around that I am willing to use.

Thanks to everyone for their continued advice on the forum.

Not insane at all! (At least on this forum)

If you have a spare few day and ~$2½K it should be a doddle.

I don’t think you have enough points on their own, and if you’re interested in earning more points, surely burning them all to get there is the wrong idea. But there are several options in the US or Asia that could get you there. Certainly you might still be able to get 360SC ($1333) alone just for visiting Fiji.

The fiji run and SYD - CBR - SYD - HBA - SYD - CBR - SYD (40K and $200ish) would get me there... Hmmm...

It can be done ;)

If I was a bit more ambitious I’d aim for WP too, but I’d need just under 700, so a bit further away than you.

Is it still possible to book the NAN run?

I plugged in a date in late Jan (but you could search at anytime that’s not busy) and the BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE run came out at $1329.76.

Code:

I am just glad I only have 25 SC's to earn by 01 Nov 10 to attain WP. Had it a few years back and lost it last year due to lack of travel for work.

Have got BNE - SYD round trips every week until December, so by Sunday evening, I will have earnt it back.

I did do a 'J' Class run down to Melb and back a few weeks ago to see family, the additional 120 SC's certainly helped, but I think I would have made it anyway.

Good Luck !!

The OP has enough points, TSV-DRW-TSV via BNE is 48000 + $186 as a JASA, doable in a day, for that a SG will earn 280 SCs and 8708 points. OP will have 560 SCs and 16K of points in the kitty after two days, so the real cost is around 80000 points and $372 + positioning flights/hotel ( 2 x $129 SYD-TSV with JQ & 4 nights hotel @$100 a night).

Note that 824/825 BNE-DRW will be a Skybed JASA on Thursdays and Sundays from April next year :)

Sam you know you want to reach platinum.

But how many points do you have.

How exactly do you go about pricing out and booking these bne-mel-syd-nan r/t type trips?

Use the multicity tool, for instance a feb trip:

Ends up with this :

Just remember to allow yourself enough time to get to Sydney, so you need to leave BNE early.

You're not insane, Platinum when you do a lot of international travel is the best thing ever...

Only sad thing about it is you end up flying QF for everything... I'd love to try Emirates and Singapore but I keep going back to QF for the Flounge. Their product isn't so bad either...

Hope you end up doing the Fiji run, it'd be a good 4 days rest over there anyway...

Krisflyer sucks for lots of int y travel though.

You prove me wrong :)

Remind me to come to you when I have enough points to do such runs.

While I would love to I suppose, I fly no where near as much as you, and you really earned your platinum last year. As I say, if I make it to the US, I’ll do a YUP and take care of it… if I don’t, I’ll just focus on SG.

And not enough points. Spent a few on an award so I’m currently aiming for 50k by NYE. Not sure after that.

I didn't fly that much, well my non AFF friends think I do.

If Sam isn't going to be Platinum then you will need F lounge guesting in the future. :p

Just my opinion but I think platinum is overrated - just means you travelled too much during the year. Sure you get flounge access for an hour or so before a flight and more upgrades but thats it, at least Singapore gives you a gift when you are pps. It would be even better if you could pre-book spa services in the flounge but thats only when you actually travel first. The highest level you get is free gold for your partner (now you can give to a friend) but my wife is normally travelling with me so doesnt need gold. I wouldnt spend money on it but thats my opinion.

You can do it though, I earnt 780 sc's in October alone

you have to admit it makes the overall experiance very pleasant... If i travel for work on a sunday i get ot the flounge like 3hrs early and really enjoy it... never failed to get into the spa, the food is always good. i'd put 200-250 bucks value to a 3 hr visit there...

Also the better seat selection, the almost immediate phone pick when you call... etc... the lounges you can use during transits... I think it's something you'll really miss once it's gone... which will happen to me in 2 years time i estimate... =(

I suppose it depends where you fly, my normal trip means that I fly at 10am but the spa doesnt open until 9am - I managed a treatment last visit only because my plane was late. I also fly from Adelaide which means I am usually short of time for connections. Would still prefer to be at home more often though and be on gold, you still get priority baggage and blounge access

I do miss pps with singapore, thats when you realise what preferential treatment is
