Now CL is where you want to be but generally the commercial manager or CEO gets that. Working for a company with 65000 employees I doubt I would be picked

Depends where you fit into that 65,000 employees :)

Fortunately not the CEO and if I was commercial manager I would fight to share the love! Even my boss doesnt have it (CEO's right hand man) and he has +3million ff points

I know several company directors (non exec board level) that don't have cl access.

There is one guy in our team that has it from when he was a senior guy in a large company - would be interesting to see if my company applied how many would get it. Maybe should get into politics, CL access and good super plan

I don’t think holding a status level is a requirement to know what it offers. Thanks to these forums, we can all share in each others experiences, and the more that have the status can compare the benefits they get from it.

My simple comparison was that you HAVE to spend S$25,000 in premium cabins (if I read things correctly) to get PPS, while for WP, that isn’t the case, yes most do, most aren’t as savvy as the members here, but the comparison was a guaranteed high value spend to a not-so-guaranteed one.

It’s a completely different figure in a completely different context, but to get CL you need to command $1 million of your companies travel to Qantas a year, and for that significant spend (not significant flying so much) you’re given extra privileges.

I guess it’s difficult to adequately compare the programs, but Silver and Gold both match up, so PPS could be Platinum, but they are each a little different and don’t match exactly.

1. The mention of CL is not remotely relevant
2. You don't seem to grasp that most top tier frequent flyers are travelling on business and the total spend is not particularly relevant. AFF is not a good sample of the program. Savvy has nothing to do with it.
3. Reading about a membership level is not the same as living it. A virgin could watch a cougho but it wouldn't make them knowledgeable about sex.

That last post was a bit of a conversation killer!

Back on topic - Yes you are insane. Platinum status is a by-product of spending too much time or money (or both) in the air. It is not supposed to be an end in itself unless you are very, very insecure and need your ego stroke regularly.

But if you fall into this category then you have come to the right place!

Are you an elite tier ff with any airline?

The other point, have you thought about Melbourne, much easier transfer and they have a f lounge

Thanks for the thoughts.
In brief it is a self funded trip for my 40th. So cheaper the better and economy from here to Singapore. I'll already have the flight from SIN to FRA (QF5/6) booked in business. So it is a search to get to singapore. I don't want to go a day early to spend time with the family. So I'm making the connection is an issue. That means going via Sydney and picking up QF5/6 there, otherwise the direct SQ option leaves early enough or JQ7/8 from MEL (only if there is a decent starclass sale in the next month or so). I think the connection times on QF 9/10 from MEL are a bit too tight, even with it being an A380.
Anyway, this isn't really the place to discuss but I have thought about it a little bit. ;) And really appreciate hearing other opinions.

You are right in comparing qantas with sinapore is like comparing apples and diamonds, they are in a different league but thats the thing that sucks. Have you tried their latest business product, in my opinion its better than the A380 first with qantas and the service is 100 times better

I would but SQ love 'enhancements' more than QF and by making sure you can't get J saver awards on any of their new aircraft they've annoyed me enough to look for other alternatives :)

WP status is not necessarily the by-product of spending too much time or money, although it can be if you so choose. If you're smart you can get it by spending about AUD1400.00 and about 7 days travelling time. YUP that all there is to it!

Most people I know use this forum to research and receive (excellent) advice on travel & in turn can report their own first hand experiences.

My 2c worth!

Have a nice day. :p

It looks like I am going to be going to drw twice in two days. I've worked out how to do it for 80k points and >$500, in two days.

Makes sense... If Adelaide had a Flounge inline with Sydney's and Melbourne's that you could use (if there are direct international flights from ADL) would your opinion of Plat change?

what is PPS?

PPS is where you have SQ staff come to your office with a bottle of Krug on your birthday to say thank you! (I think I was in their top 50 flyer lists for a few years out of SYD)

Other benefits as publicly known. Always did enjoy the food in FL in SIN. An oasis.

Cheers Spruce

Currently QF Gold .... but how is that relevant to your decision to spend between $1,000-2,000 worth of points plus $500 cash (not to mention 2 days of time) to achieve a slightly higher level of status?

What do you estimate each trip to the F lounge will cost you? $100?? More???

I would assume the relevance was that he wondered if you had experience with Platinum or another elite level, or had no experience. While the ability to enter in program affiliations and levels isn’t mandatory, when replying to topics, it does help others understand what you know, without asking additional questions.

As for how much a visit to the F lounge costs, I;m sure others have priced it up, but lets say you have a 3 course meal (starter, main, dessert), matched with a few wines and a few glasses of their most expensive champagne, whichever one that is, and then perhaps also get a spa treatment, I’d say that’d be over $100 easily. It could even be approaching $200 or more, depends what you’d expect to pay elsewhere I guess.

I think as the OP mentions they are looking to the unpublished benefits of WP as well as the stated 2X points and F lounge access. As they say, they mostly do long haul international, so 80K of points is easily recovered in the said 2x bonus, throw in better seats and chances at ODUs and they see the value in their situation.

I have noticed the difference since getting back to WP from 4 odd years as Gold, with 5 ODUs since July and three guardian angel calls from the premium desk to sort out delayed flights with other options not normally available, and thats without any OS travel.

Ah cool thanks for the tip - will be there in Dec & Jan again on JAL so that will look out for it!

FWIR, Sakura lounge doesn't have showers. But the QP, at that time of year, is FULL of noisy bloody children with parents who don't control them.

It does have showers, 5 on the lower level of the main lounge near gate 61.
