Damn! Just realised this is only for bookings paid at the hotel, not prepaid bookings. Pity I made a non-refundable booking. Any suggestions/experience as to whether people have argued otherwise?

This works well for me and thanks for the reminder on multiple cards including bank issued ones.

I have one stay in Perth 2 nights and the total was $304.20 (bargain) and I have another booking to make in another city.

How'd you get 2 nights for $300!?

Really want to take advantage of the credit, and looked at dining in only, but don't want to take the risk.
Probably book for one night, then dine the same night charging the bill to my room, then paying with multiple AMEX cards.

Don't suppose you got the email or credit? The T&Cs are often more restrictive than reality

I'm going to the Coldplay concert in Dec, so will be spending a night at the Hilton. I plan to have a very nice dinner at Glass and charge it to the room. On checkout I will split the bill over 2 Amex cards which will give me a half price dinner at Glass and a cheap stay at the Hilton :)

Nothing yet. Will wait another few days. I did try my luck by giving the Hilton a call. I guess I learn the hard (and expensive ) way

Which company shows up on your transaction as the merchant for the transaction?

Booking flexi stays about 6 months ago and then checking Hilton sales when they get posted, and rebooking at a lower rate still at flexible rate.

Just booked 2 bedroom suite in Melbourne, total cost before promo (2 nights): $1174, total cost after: $724 :D
Split it over 3 cards no problem. First phone agent told me it had to be paid with one card so i asked to speak to her manager. Problem solved. Just missed out using a 4th card, should have prepaid the mini bar ;)

I didn't realise the statement credit worked on pre paid bookings?

Yes, I was thinking the same thing.

Edit: I never pre-pay anyway, preferring to monitor the rates that are cancellable.

I'm not sure about Hilton, but I booked with Accor using prepaid rates and Amex credited my account with the statement credit after a few days. If I had to guess, it would be the same with Hilton

Well ataraxis will be able to confirm in a few days I guess

It depends on who actually charges your card. Some chains, such as Accor, it tends to be the hotels themselves that are the merchant. It would come unstuck if it is charged by a centralised reservations place.

This is why you need to call and make an in-house booking at the property. That way the transaction is the same as it would be upon checkout. Already had Amex confirmation emails so I'm pretty confident my credits will post. Advanced Diamond booking rates are generally only available online but they allow you to pre-pay that rate with the property (a sale is a sale, right?) and I don't typically see these rates go lower than a flexi.

Any cruise ships around?

Since you're in Cairns I assume you may also be into scuba diving or similar activities. Don't forget to book the activity with the tour desk near reception and get them to put it on your portfolio for 50% off scuba as well. I would recommend Silverswift or Tulsa if interested.
