AMEX 17,500 points offer

I received a phone call last Thu to confirm my address and that I actually applied for the card. No worries there, and the card is apparently on it's way.

Maybe tomorrow! Maybe Wednesday! Who knows :)

What an interesting spread of application-> card in hand times for various people who have applied!

Time to get on the phone...

Update: "Billing error on our part. I can see that your annual fee should have been waived for the first year. My apologies, it will be reversed in the next few days."

Here's hoping. :)
The same $195 fee showed up on my statement today. I guess they'll be getting a few phone calls over the next few days unless they correct this 'glitch'.

Oh no I bet this will show up on mine too! LOL

No points have appeared on my QFF - I will be patient. ;)

I applied a few days before 30 Aug. Have had the card for a couple of weeks now and the 15,000 points posted to my FF account today. Very impressed. Just need to book a Qf flight now to get that extra 2,500 points.

I didn't have to make any phone calls to check the status of my application but this is the contact no I have: 1300 727 169
Had my card for a couple of weeks, now. Did the first spend at Dan Murphy's on 16th Sept, but no points posted in FF account yet. Also did first spend on QF booking airfare this morning. Will see what happens:!:

I think i'm in the same boat as you, no points yet, though no $195 fee either.

Phoned the Amex customer service centre this morning re: the $195 annual fee that has been charged to my account.
Spoke to a very helpful 'native English speaker' in Sydney, who asked me to fax him a copy of the promotion, which I have done. Nothing's happened yet but his attitude was positive.
You have to wonder about the inconsistency of these things. Some get signed up within days, others take weeks. Some get the promotional points almost immediately, some don't. (I guess this could be due to monthly account cycles)
Then Febs is told his $195 fee will be reversed immediately whilst I am asked to fax proof.

The positive thing is my phone call was answered immediately. --No pushing dozens of buttons to go through endless menus like some other call centres. Also the person I spoke to was friendly and helpful and SPOKE ENGLISH

I haven't had a statement yet. That will come on 1st of the month.

Can we have this magical phone number you rang then?

At first I was asked to fax proof, but literally 2 seconds after asking me, she said "Actually don't worry, I can see it's a fee-free deal etc..."

So, better service from an Indian call centre...what's going on?:mrgreen:

Cheers,
- Febs.

#87 - Robert. I haven't had a paper statement yet either. I checked it on-line. The $195 showed up on 24 Sep, which appears to be the end of my statement period.

#88 - Febs. The number I called is 1300 727 169. Probably the same number you called. -- More inconsistency?

Thanks, Colin. I just checked online and I haven't had the $195 debited, only a supp card fee, but then, my billing cycle hasn't turned over yet.

I got my card a couple of weeks back with lots of phone calls to PH call to get the deal entered properly on my account. I got the 17500 points as promised in QFF account even before getting the statement, but to my surprise have been charged $195 as well like some of you.

When I called them up, the guy was aware of this problem and mentioned that it was something to do with SID code he also gave me the problematic SID code so that I could reference it for future calls.

He told me it was a back office processing mistake and that it would be corrected soon, but no difinate time line. He also told me to go ahead and pay up the fees as shown in the current statement if I wanted to avoid interest charges.

Andy, are you saying that will pay the fee, even though it has been incorrectly charged, in order to avoid late fees?

Not sure if that is the right approach?!?

Like i have mentioned previously, I am going through the same thing - best to call Edwardo (maybe not typed correctly) on 029271 8448.

He is also having difficulting "finding the promotion code". I won't be in a position to pay the annual fee.

If anyone out there who has:

1. Received a statement WITH NO ANNUAL FEE and
2. Received the 10k + 5k + 2.5k (if appl) QF points, maybe helpful if you
could let us know the AMEX promo code.

I know it sounds weird, but the message I have got is "not sure what the promo code is"...

Any input would be appreciated.

If they have incorrectly charged fees, then they should not be charging interest on those fees. Should they charge you interest, then complain hard and loud to get them reversed.

Again, not sure if "complain" is quite correct either - remind them of their contractual obligations (i.e. threaten) is probably what I recommend.

Again, it would be benefical if anyone has got the AMEX promo code (maybe directly from AMEX) that provides the annual fee exemption and 10+5+2.5k points offer, to post it here - please.

I don't have a promo code for this offer but the link in the OP still works. That page is what I faxed to them yesterday.
I received a phone call this morning, assuring me that the charge will be reversed in the next 2-3 days. My statement has already been issued with the $195 charge. Assuming it is reversed in the next few days I won't be deducting the $195. I will pay the balance in full on the due date. I realise that I could argue the toss and would be within my rights to deduct $195 from the payment But I am convinced that next month there would be an interest charge and I just can't be bothered with the hassle. If it is reversed within a week I will be happy.

My balance through Online Card Services has changed to "Unavailable" (whereas the balance for my other card is still visible, on the same screen), so hopefully that means they're removing the charge as we speak. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Not necassarily. I sometimes see Unavailable as my balance on my cards whereas other cards will be displaying amounts. In fact one of them is Unavailable now, and I am not expecting them to be removing any fees!

Card finally turned up.

No Qantas spends planned for the next couple of months that I can see.

So, does anyone know the cheapest Qantas spend that I can do to get the points? (have looked at FF point purchases, but not overly keen due to the "requirement" to use them for a booking. Also not wanting to change one of my current QF flights to get the "penalty" fee added to my Amex).

So, any creative ideas?

The fine print for the 2500 points says:

2 Selected Qantas products and services are: (a) Qantas passenger flights with a QF flight number purchased on the Qantas merchant account i.e. with Qantas direct or some travel agents, or (b) purchases from Qantas Travel shops. Excludes: Qantas Freight, Qantas Holidays, Jetstar, Qantas branded non-airfare products operated by third parties e.g. Qantas Box Office. Points Terms and Conditions apply.
