Amex Australia - Centurion Card Eligibility

verbal EOI submitted.
wanted to know non-business spend on the platinum card & what I was interested in (which has been mentioned in the past, watches, cars, food, travel etc)
That's interesting!

When I lodged my verbal EOI, the lady on the other end didn't ask a single question...

Hi, newbie here, could you please point me to the thread? I can only find the one that talks about how to get US Amex card. Thanks

That’s the thread you’re looking for - Amex has variously referred to it as “moving to another country” “transfer my card to a new country” etc etc

The essence is that you use your existing relationship with Amex in Australia from them to evaluate you as a customer in a new country where you wouldn’t have a credit history. They don’t actually transfer your card or account; they open a new one in the US for you.

You can choose to close or retain your existing Australian account.

And to follow on, once you have accounts in both countries you can - once per year - transfer your membership rewards from your Australian Amex account to your US one. This is done, roughly, at the Forex rate. The logic for doing so and people’s experiences are all in the same thread.

Lots of really good info in there …….

I was sent an invite and had a call today - still undecided. Does anyone know if the IAP differs for Centurion members? Or is it pretty much the same as what you see if you’re Plat? On the call they didn’t really seem to know..

Forgive my ignorance, what is IAP? I can help with benefits of a Cent card.

Thanks so much for that, can the new card be any US Amex card and have the conversion rate you mentioned? I am quite interested in the Marriott one but don't want the points to be converted to Marriott points.

International airline program
Gold on EK, that's about it. Years ago they gave Diamond on CX. If you are interested, hotel benefits are: Accor-Platinum, Shangri-la-Diamond, Hilton-Diamond, Marriott-Gold and extra benefits with Fine Hotels. Via Shangri-la status, I was able to be silver with SIA. Free QF club membership. A relationship manager if you travel a lot, some great some not so great. They have yet to succeed with my special requests. Currently you can still get a Net-A-Porter voucher for around $375 till end of the year. During Covid, there were a few extra benefits to compensate eg supermarket vouchers. Try to get the joining fee waived.

Yeah, I’m already QF platinum, Marriott Gold, IHG platinum, so many of the benefits aren’t useful for me. However, they spoke about discounted J/F bookings through the IAP (via RM), but what I don’t know is if this is any different to what I can already access with Plat.

Well they once had a great deal on Etihad, 8k plus in F. Maybe they have specials for companions but I have never used their specials. I am one to do my own research on fares and holidays because I enjoy doing it. If you are just looking at dollar's worth then it's probably not worth the fees. But it has allowed me to make expensive purchases overseas eg a few Rolex watches without any issues.

Oh nice. Was specific destinations/dates out of curiosity?

On the Rolex front....

I have run an experiment in each of the 6 countries I've been in over the last few months, and each time I find a Rolex dealer and ask about availability...

Seems to me that availability is rubbish globally!

Pretty much every time the answer was : "we are doing expressions of interest/go onto a list" ... just like here in Aus...

Have you found a specific country that can sell me one of the decent Rolex's at (or at least close to) list price, over the counter?

By reasonable I mean Subbie, Daytona, GMT 2, Deep sea, Yacht master..

It was a long time ago re Etihad offer. On my benefits page:
Centurion Members can take flight with the International Airline Program, offering exclusive savings on First and Business Class airfares, with some of the world’s finest airlines.
Plus you'll earn Membership Rewards® points and get air miles as you typically would when you book with your Relationship Manager or Centurion Travel Service
Remember, you can also travel with friends and family and benefit from lower fares for yourself and up to 7 additional travellers (8 total travellers) when you book with the International Airline Program.

I was able to get an Explorer and a Date-just from an Oz AD. With the other recent purchases, they were at DXB and BKK airports but prices were marked up. Haven't been able to get the models you mentioned from AD. Got a new sub and yacht master on the grey market.

Despite this line, there's also no need for the eligible cardholder to be travelling - I booked some Etihad IAP fares for some friends earlier this year.

I'm only plat and had to purchase my sub on grey too. I just hate the level os sucking up to an AD that would allow me to buy a Pepsi or batman.

I have tried at numerous airports without success.

My Cent relationship manager was of no help. I was surprised to get the Explorer, no sucking up, just an EOI and got it in 2 weeks. The second was a diamond ladies DJ which was probably not in high demand. I send thank you gifts only after I get a watch.

Has to be an mr point . Apply for a fee free card . Referral links can be shared if you like .

I just applied yesterday. I just sold a business and put 20-30k per month through the platinum card. I'm not sure if I spend enough on it, but I think I tick the other boxes. So we shall see.
