Amex Centurion Card eligibility in Australia

$100k annual spend to be considered ?
Amex must be getting poor uptake on this card.
Back in the day the criteria was $40k/month.
Sounds like they'll be inviting me soon, hah!

A couple years ago I might've considered it, but landlocked to Australia and building a home it hardly seems worth it anymore. I've already got vanity plates on my car, don't need one in my wallet as well :p

Anyone received any invites this year?

Spend per year?

Thinking of requesting to see. Will do a check on how much I spent first though over the last 12 mths

No, I believe them when they said they would never offer me on again, when I cancelled mine.

I couldn't justify the yearly fee against the reducing benefits.

When did you cancel? I bet there's been a hell of an uptake on the Plat Charge from people leaving Cent.

Just ask via the logged in web chat. Fastest way. You can also apply via there for consideration for invitation.
Don't know if I can be bothered now! Was 179k in the past 12 months.

Don't know about asking via Livechat, will probably call the number on the back of the card if I decide to

UPDATE:
Called the number on the back of my card, after a fellow AFF member messaged me. Spoke to a guy called Ray, Australian Call Centre being in hours, and he advised he put forward some remarks about my spend level. I asked him what happens next, and he advised based on previous experience he has had there can be a bit of back and forth between him and the Centurion team on whether I'm eligible. Sounded like he would almost back me up being I've put the interest forward. He advised he will provide an update either way. I'm doubting the last part though based on previous messages on this thread; but fingers crossed!

Hey all, i stumbled across this link and not sure if it has been posted here before. Looks like a EOI for the centurion card.

Cheers

I consistently spend circa 60K a month on Plat charge, and circa 40K a month on Plat edge cc, and have never received an invite.

I think it would just about be worth doing just for the extra points, but the flip side of that is that I have like 10M points already, and I can't really use them at the moment anyways..

I'm thinking that when Australia opens its borders, and international travel is on again, then it would probably be worth having one.. But unless someone travels a lot, its difficult to see the value..

I wondered the same thing as I had you earning an extra 150,000 AMEX points per year / 75,000 flyer points (presuming you did all your spend on the Centurion) - the question is whether that, together with the other perks from the card, are worth the extra $ (?$3500) and sign-up fee (can't recall - $5K) for the card, esp. given your warehouse of points - it doesn't seem that great a deal, but YMMV!

Don't forget – it's been reported, I can't confirm from personal experience – that you actually lose some benefits too, such as the $450 travel credit! Perhaps it's only that benefit that gets worse, but that's still a huge loss when you're paying $3500 more. If you do the equations it's then actually more like paying $3950 more!! 😳

100k a month, times by 0.25 (moving from 2.25, to 2.5) is 25,000 additional Amex points a month, or 300,000 Amex points a year right??!?

So is it worth paying $3500, for 150,000 Kris, or Asia Miles??

Its right on the line hey!

Probably not in this environment..

Think I'll wait a bit, and try for one when travel is back..

I think it's a given that you can get the initial sign up fee waived..

Agree, its difficult to justify, even at my spend level, unless someone travels a LOT....

My bad - sorry - I always think in 'frequent flyer points' not AMEX points (and obviously forgot that when making my post!) - so yes 150,000 'frequent flier points' and not 75,000 as i stated (lol). as samh004 said, sounds like you also lose an additional $400 travel credit, so now its $3950 - I honestly don't think it's ever worth paying 2.6 cents / point for 'points' (unless it's a direct comparison to paying for a flight at a particular point in time - ie, $3950 / 150,000 FF pts), and esp. with 10M points in your warehouse and v little travel on the horizon --- YMMV, which is probably going to depend as well, on any other benefits you're getting from the cent card (and it's also good 'bling' as well I hear!!)

That's why I let my Centurion lapse a few years ago. I couldn't reconcile the cost against the benefits. My mates thought it was funny for a few years; that was about the best benefit. But now there are black, silver, metal, titanium etc credit and charge cards from different platforms. Nobody really knows the difference anymore.

I've recently done similar analysis to see if my Centurion card is worth keeping. I spend about $200K a month on this card. I'm fortunate to have significant business spend that allows this to happen. At an extra 0.25 points / dollar, that gives me an additional 600K MR earn each year compared to a Platinum charge, which is worth $3K in Amex credit which is the worst possible redemption rate.

You don't get the Plat charge travel credit which is unfortunate, but you do get the Amex Reserve credit. Centurion also gives a Net a Porter credit, and the grocery credits have all helped balance out the annual fee. My credit limit and my relationship manager make the card a no brainer for me, but if I didn't earn enough additional points, I would reconsider the card as currently, without travel, the majority of the perks are not very useful
