  1. Signup bonus: 50,000 bonus Amex Membership Rewards Points, when you spend at least $4,000 on eligible purchases within 3 months of approval
  2. Earn 2 Membership Rewards Points per $1 on eligible purchases, uncapped, which you can transfer to 13 different airline & hotel programs
  3. $400 annual travel credit fully offsets the $395 annual fee

amex-explorer-card-art.pngWhy we like the American Express Explorer credit card

This card lets you earn Amex Membership Rewards points at a solid rate of 2 points per dollar, uncapped, without the higher annual fee of the Amex Platinum card.

You can transfer Amex points to 11 airline frequent flyer programs and 2 hotel loyalty programs, generally at a 2:1 rate. For example, this means you’re effectively earning 1 Velocity Point, Qatar Avios or Cathay Asia Mile per $1 spent on the card.

The $395 annual fee is offset by a $400 annual travel credit that you can spend on eligible flights, car rentals or hotels when booking through American Express Travel.

You'll also receive two free annual visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne Airport, plus complimentary travel insurance. See our card guide for the full details:

I agree, you should have no problem.

Be sure to use a (an AFF) referral link to get the 110,000 points and help another member out
Thanks .. Just tried to sign up (using a referal) . I get to the last stage where it says " please wait " . It thinks for awhile & the comes up with " safari cannot open this page " . Tried 3 times with same result . ??????

Perhaps give them a call to check if anything has registered with Amex from the applications - its possible your browser failed to load the last screen advising yay/nay.

I'd do that before trying another browser as they may have already approved you.

That's frustrating, maybe try Chrome or Explorer or....?

Got my accounts linked tonight :) gentleman did it over the phone while I was on hold . Just waiting for the gateway points to land into my ascent account . He said he needed manager approval for that - fingers crossed manager doesn't look and reverse the changes !

Gateway points landed into my ascent account ....thanks to the poster who said his magic time was Saturday after 10pm, that's exactly when I rang and it was the smoothest easiest transaction ever!
It's such a good points earner...everything pays 2MR/$ except (post office)!

Got onto amex rep who said he can see the multiple applications & now it has confused the system . Lol They will cancel all & contact me sometime tomorrow when done . Then i will be able to try again .

My new card and a separate letter arrived (7 days after I applied).

Letter made reference to the fact that I was already a 'Cardmember' and they took this into account in assigning my credit limit for my new card.

So no sign on bonus? Sorry I haven't been following the thread.

I'm an Edge holder and Explorer just arrived yesterday (linked to Ascent). Partner was new to Amex so he got his 100k, I then used his referral link to give him 20k bonus. Now I just need to get my bonus pts but understand it can be a bit tricky.

Would appreciate tips on unlinking and relinking. Currently I don't dare to spend a cent on the Explorer in case i muck it up!

Simply call to unlink card from Ascent to gateway, spend your $1500 you receive the bonus. Only hard part is re-linking.

How/when are the bonus points awarded?

Is it like some other AMEX cards that you get a small amount after the first purchase but the full amount is not awarded until you meet the $1500 spend or are all of the points awarded after reaching the $1500 spend?

I made a small purchase 5 days ago, got the points for that purchase but no sign of anything to do with bonus yet.

For me, 100k points after the full $1,500 spend.

Points for purchases come through as they clear. With my Explorer the bonus points came in one lump sum before I even hit the $1500 spend, was at $1400 when it came in.

I'm heading overseas and am not sure when this account will be due, so I'd like to pay it now. I haven't received my first statement yet so I'm not 100% sure of the bpay details.

Going from my previous AMEX accounts the Biller Code has been 5082 and the reference is your 15 digit card number.

Is this the same for the Explorer card or is it a different Biller Code and or reference number required?

Same. 5082 and card number as ref.
