amex-explorer-card-art.pngWhy we like the American Express Explorer credit card

This card lets you earn Amex Membership Rewards points at a solid rate of 2 points per dollar, uncapped, without the higher annual fee of the Amex Platinum card.

You can transfer Amex points to 11 airline frequent flyer programs and 2 hotel loyalty programs, generally at a 2:1 rate. For example, this means you’re effectively earning 1 Velocity Point, Qatar Avios or Cathay Asia Mile per $1 spent on the card.

The $395 annual fee is offset by a $400 annual travel credit that you can spend on eligible flights, car rentals or hotels when booking through American Express Travel.

You'll also receive two free annual visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne Airport, plus complimentary travel insurance. See our card guide for the full details:

Thanks Steady for your inputs. Yes, i am reading through the forum and learning a lot..thanks to everyone.

Thanks

Can someone explain to me

If you have a Explorer first and then get a Plat edge

I've heard conflicting stories
Does the gateway get converted auto magically to Ascent? As I've been told to wait until gateway bonus comes in before linking or applying for edge

keen on advice for this questions too...

Today i received my Explorer card. Just want to know, once you have achieved the $1500 spending, how long do you have to wait for the bonus points to show up ?

And i want to add that, as alluded to by other posters, they know that you already have another AMEX issued card (That's what they wrote on the welcome letter, and that's how they determined my credit limit)

Once the you spend $1.5k, you will get the points in a day or two (for my case)

Pretty much instant. I received mine before the $1500 spend was reached.

How long does it take for the MR account to be active on the card? I've activated my card for a week and have registered it online but still can't see the column on the right with Points etc. I won't start using the card until it appears as I met the $1500 on the Mrs card without it being enrolled and had to spend another $1500 to get the 110k bonus..

I can confirm that there is no " auto magically" conversion of Gateway to Ascent.

Also there is no Santa, Easter Bunny....

....but on the positive side glitches, loopholes, poorly written terms and mistakes do exist.

Heart skipped a beat.called up under the Explorer credit card and it told me I had 60k points meaning it was linked to the ascent the guy then told me they are linked and he can't unlink them.had to get a supervisor and ended up getting them unlinked.
Got told the process would take 24-48hrs.hope it's quicker I just spent the $1500 and I'm hoping it doesn't go to the ascent becauseI made the purchase before delinking and when I logged in there was no gateway option showing

Have you read much of this thread? There is lots of advice on what and what not to do for members with your exact scenario.
(before you got to this point) if it unlinks ok and the spend had already hit your account, you will likely need to spend another $1500 to trigger the bonus points.

Anyone else who has just signed up that already has an MR Acent account, should read this thread

The transaction is pending so if the unlinking occurs before the transaction clears it should work right?
For people that have done this when you 1st login to the account does it have your other cards number for the points and when you unlink it just shows up with gateway?

Even the 110k points? I've got a feeling I've stuffed it up.

No what I meant is the earn on points will go to your Ascent program. So you will only earn the points/ $ spent. You will not gain the sign-on bonus as the spend was not in the Gateway Program.

Luckily it is like Monopoly. You get to go back to GO and get another $200 (or to spend the $1500 again to qualify for the 110K).

Just got my card, activated and called Amex to unlink it from Ascent.

Was no trouble at all for my operator. I asked her if I change my mind can I switch back to Ascent. She said normally they can only do this once a year. We'll find out...

Now to rack up the $1500.

What happened to the person who link his gateway to ascent and lost all his points a few days ago?? Any update in that?

Waiting, checking balance every day.

One of the amex customer representatives did touch base with me earlier, so I'll give him a could more days before I reach out to him again.
